- This action will speed up the entry and exit of trains and work machinery to both the Renfe workshops and the future maintenance base of Adif, while reducing its route.
- The Ministry, through Adif, is building a new road and infrastructure maintenance base in Fuencarral, replacing the existing one in Chamartín, which will be demolished as part of the expansion of the station.
The Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility has litigated for 8.4 million euros (VAT included) various actions to improve the connection of the Fuencarral railway complex, located north of the city of Madrid, with the rest of the network. This will speed up the entry and exit of trains and machinery to Adif’s new maintenance base, as well as to Renfe’s workshops and its road beach.
This complex, in which recently Minister Óscar Puente announced an investment of €1 billion For the modernization of Renfe’s maintenance workshops, it houses one of these workshops and a new track and infrastructure maintenance base that Adif is building to replace the one currently located in Chamartín-Clara Campoamor, which has to be demolished as part of the extension works of the station. In this context, the recently opened C/ Ivy pass, recovering the road traffic that crosses the station.
Currently the access to the railway complex of Fuencarral is done through a single track (rodeo track) that is close to the station of Chamartín, practically at the height of the crossing with the M-30. The contract that is now being negotiated will make it possible to have another route, parallel to the current one, which will also have a direct connection with the two general routes of the Fuencarral Commuter Station (line C4), thus considerably reducing the route for the entrance or exit of the Fuencarral complex and improving the railway operation.
In addition, the works cover the renovation of the current rodeo track with higher performance materials and the catenary posts incompatible with the new track will be dismantled, which will be replaced by rigid semi-mortics that will serve both tracks.
Finally, the contract also includes the assembly of 6 track devices (1 escape, 4 detours and 1 crossing) in the surroundings of the new maintenance base and the demolition of the current base of Chamartín, as well as the transfer of machines, tools, materials and belongings to the new facilities.
New maintenance base
With an investment of about 13 million euros (VAT included), Adif is building a new maintenance base in Fuencarral, which will have a ship distributed in three areas: workshop, warehouse and offices, with a total of 1,686 m2 built.
It will also have four mango tracks; two of them will have a topera inside the nave. The inland waterway beach will occupy an area of 1,723 m2. On the east side of the road beach, the land will be conditioned for the movement of heavy vehicles, thus allowing the collection of material. The exterior of the building, with a parking area, will be urbanized.
In addition, the base and its link with the general roads will have new facilities of Signalling and telecommunications and control, command and signalling (CMS).
This action contributes to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure), which has among its goals the development of reliable, sustainable, resilient and quality infrastructures.
European funding
These works that have now been tendered can be co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
