The subdelegate of the Government in Lugo, Olimpia López, presided this morning a security board in the House of Culture of Pedrafita do Cebreiro, with the participation of the mayors of the municipalities of Negueira de Muñiz, Quiroga, Navia de Suarna, Cervantes, Becerreá, Ribas de Sil, Folgoso do Courel and Pedrafita do Cebreiro, in the company of the Secretary General of the Subdelegation of the Government, Elvira Paloma Fernández, with the objective of ensuring the security of the observation of the points.
The meeting was also attended by officials of the State security forces and bodies, as well as other bodies involved in the operation, in order to strengthen the institutional coordination necessary to organize the security, mobility and emergency mechanisms associated with this astronomical phenomenon. “We must take into account the orography of the southeast of the province and the difficulty it may cause in the access points to the visibility points so as not to compromise the safety of those who want to see the eclipse and the rest of the citizens,” added the subdelegate.
During the meeting, Olimpia López recalled that “the province of Lugo will be one of the privileged territories for the observation of the eclipse and if it foresees a high influx of visitors, for which it is essential to anticipate the planning and coordinate the resources of the different administrations.”
“This is an exceptional event that requires planning, collaboration and coordination to ensure security and that citizens can enjoy this experience in ideal conditions,” insisted the deputy delegate.
Coordination with the municipalities
The Government Subdelegation asked the municipalities to specify the spaces that can serve as observation points and also those that it is not possible for us to gather a large number of people, in order to plan in advance security devices, regulate traffic and strengthen emergency services.
This point highlights the importance of coordinating with the municipalities, as administrations closer to the territory and that better know the spaces, accesses and possible dangerous points or concentration of people.
Safety and mobility device
The meeting also addressed the main recommendations of security and mobility that will be transferred to the citizens. Among them, it highlights the convenience of planning trips in advance and avoiding travel on the same day of the event, due to the forecast of high traffic intensity. In addition, the need to extreme caution in driving was emphasized, informing through the DGT of possible cuts in roads derived from emergency situations, which may coincide with the astronomical event.
It was also recommended to promote the download of the AlertCops application, which allows incidents to be communicated quickly to security forces and bodies.
