Transportes awards the construction of a technical station in Las Tablas to improve the capacity of Chamartín for 47 million euros

• 17 sideways will be built north of the Chamartín-Clara Campoamor station for high-speed train parking, support and maintenance work.

The Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, through Adif High Speed, has awarded 47.13 million euros (VAT included) for the contract for the construction of a technical installation in Las Tablas, north of the Madrid Chamartín-Clara Campoamor station. This performance, which was authorised in July 2025 by the Council of Ministers, will facilitate new parking spaces for high-speed trains, which will result in the improvement of the capacity and operability of Chamartín.

The new facilities will have two beaches of roads (sector A and sector B), with 10 and 7 roads, respectively, of 405 meters of useful length and international width. The tracks will be equipped with technical platforms for the ascent and descent to the trains of the driving and conservation staff.

Additionally, the first bundle of tracks will be equipped with installations of force, water and waste emptying to be able to perform small support and maintenance tasks. It will also have a technical building with two different sectors: one for Adif, with offices, warehouses and facilities, and another for railway operators.

The new facility will be built in the Las Tablas area, from which a direct connection can be established with the Madrid-Valladolid High-Speed Line, which guarantees quick access to the Chamartín station, while facilitating the long-term parking of trains.

The Madrid Chamartín-Clara Campoamor station has recently completed its Process of enlargement and remodeling. In the field of high speed, it has gone from having 6 tracks to a total of 12 passing tracks (from 14 to 25) to cope with the growing number of passengers. In 2025, Chamartín managed a record 46.2 million travelers, compared to 44.4 million the previous year.

Main actions

For the construction of the new technical station of Las Tablas it will be necessary to demolish the existing elements in the area (including several buildings), the diversion of the affected services (telephone lines and fiber optic pipelines) and the replacement of the railway drains (two collectors of the LAV will be replaced).

In addition, to access from the LAV Madrid-Valladolid you will have to modify and expand the existing pilot screen. On the new beaches, a plaque track will be mounted in sector A and on ballast in sector B. The contract includes the electrification actions of all the tracks.

For the communication between platforms, there will be passages at the level of three meters wide in both sectors, in addition to a lower passage in sector A. Likewise, and in order to facilitate the movements inside the installation, a perimeter vial will be built that gives access to loading and unloading areas and parking.

At the same time, Adif AV is making progress in hiring the necessary materials to carry out these works. Thus, it has awarded the contract for the supply and transport of railway detours in the amount of 3.54 million euros and has contracted, for 2.72 million euros, the supply and transport of the sleepers necessary for the assembly of the tracks in the new facilities of Las Tablas: monobloc and biblock sleepers, for both plate track and ballast track, as well as the corresponding transition sleepers. In addition, it has also recently awarded the contract for consultancy and technical assistance to the work in the amount of 2.28 million euros.
