The subdelegate of the Government in Ourense, Eladio Santos, asked for "prudence and responsibility" to the citizens "to enjoy a fun and safe Carnival" in the city of Ourense. He said this during the Local Security Board that he chaired this morning to coordinate the special device that will control the proper functioning of the celebrations that will take place from February 12 to 18.
Also participating in the meeting were the territorial delegate of the Xunta, Manuel Pardo; the Secretary General of the Government Subdelegation, Manuel Arias; the advisor of the Citizen Security area of the City Council, Laureano Bermejo, the heads of the Civil Protection units of the Subdelegation, Mari Carmen Lodos, and Violence Against Women, Alida Iglesias, and representatives of the National Police, Seconded Police and Local Police, as well as members of neighboring associations and merchants.
The operation designed to guarantee security in the Carnival of Ourense, in which an important influx is expected, is formed by National Police, Local Police, Civil Protection, firefighters of Ourense, Emergencies of 112 Galicia, private security and health services. Specifically, an Advanced Command Post will be installed in the City Hall from Saturday to Monday and a field hospital in the vicinity of the Cathedral, in the upper area. In addition, private security professionals will be in charge of the access controls to the Plaza Mayor and the Rúa do Progreso on the days of musical performances.
“There will be a reinforced police presence and permanent attention to any incident. Everything is designed so that we can enjoy our party with tranquility and that this is another memorable Carnival in Ourense,” said the deputy delegate. Thus, the National Police clarified that its number of troops will be reinforced with external units during the nights to exercise special surveillance in the points of greatest influx, predictably, the area between the Plaza Mayor, Rúa do Progreso, Santa Eufemia and Praza do Correxidor.
In addition, the City Council will install a Violeta Point during the festivities in the Plaza Mayor’s foothills. The head of the Unit against Violence against Women of the Subdelegation, Alida Iglesias, thanked the initiative, because “the Violet Point is a very useful tool against aggression because it provides assistance to the victims, offers information and has an important deterrent effect”.
As usual, the Local Security Board also addressed the state of citizen security in Ourense. The National Police indicated that in recent months there has been a decrease in known crimes against people and property, while at the same time the clarification has increased. Currently, the biggest problem is related to scams and crimes associated with new technologies.
Gender Violence
With regard to gender violence, there are currently 178 active cases in the VioGén System in the city of Ourense, of which 122 are being monitored by the National Police; 26 by the Seconded Police (UPA) and 30 by the Local Police. "The beginning of this year brought alarming figures, with 6 women killed in Spain, which means that we must continue to be involved with unity in the fight against the scourge of gender violence," said Eladio Santos.
Master Plan
With respect to the review of the Master Plan for Coexistence and Improvement of Security in Educational Centers and Their Environments, the National Police highlighted as positive the upward trend experienced in the request for talks in educational centers of the city, since so far in this school year 107 were offered, compared to 83 in the same period of the previous course. Specifically, 65 of the talks were aimed at primary school students, with bullying and cyberbullying as the main topics demanded.
