The Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities (MICIU) has published the resolution that grants the distinction of ‘City of Science and Innovation’ to 19 localities, among which is the Madrid locality of Tres Cantos. In this way, there are already 128 cities that make up the 'Innpulse Network', of which other municipalities in the region such as Alcobendas, Alcorcón, Getafe, Las Rozas, Madrid and Pinto were already part.
In particular, Tres Cantos has been selected in the category of 20,000 to 100,000 inhabitants and is thus added to the cities that seek in their initiatives and projects to endow them with a character not only innovative, but also implies greater protection of the environment, as well as introducing social aspects to them. In fact, actions or innovation projects carried out or promoted by the city council in the last five years are valued.
Thus, the development evaluation criteria that must be met and that are evaluated for their achievement require projects aimed at the improvement of public services and the environment; the promotion of economic and business activity; the improvement of internal organization in local entities; procedures of public purchase of innovation; or economic effort made in the field of innovation by the candidacy, among others.
Three categories of cities
In particular, in the category of cities with more than 100,000 inhabitants, this distinction has been awarded to Alicante, Córdoba; Elche (Alicante) and Torrevieja (Alicante); in the category of municipalities with 20,001 to 100,000 inhabitants, to Alboraya (Valencia); Almassora (Castellón); Chiclana de la Frontera (Cádiz); Denia (Alicante); Mogan (Las Palmas); Mollet del Vallès (Barcelona); Montilla (Córdoba); Palencia; Tres Cantos (Madrid) and Rioja (Barcelona); and in La La Picanja, Modality.
