The government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, has highlighted the historical investment of the Government of Spain for the creation of security infrastructures in Galicia through the construction of new headquarters of the Civil Guard in Cambados and A Fonsagrada, reaffirming that “it is a clear commitment to improve the conditions in which the State Security Forces and Bodies carry out their work of protecting citizens.”
The delegate stressed that "the strengthening of security and the modernization of infrastructures in Galicia is a priority for the Government of Spain, which continues to make an investment effort to improve the quality of life of the entire Galician society." In fact, the delegate clarified, "Galicia is the second safest autonomous community in the country, largely as a result of the policies that this government carries out in terms of security".
With regard to the contracts awarded, the Civil Guard headquarters in Cambados (Pontevedra) has a budget of 9.3 million euros and the estimated execution time is 18 months. It will house, once it is operational, a unit of the PAPRONA (Nature Protection Patrols), the Judicial Police and Prosecutor and Border Patrols (PAFIF), among other units, with a total of 131 personnel.
On the ground floor, there will be the public service units, such as the investigation office, the weapons intervention offices, the citizen service area and the EMUME, for women and minors. In addition, five dungeons will be built inside and it will have 37 official vehicles and 16 pavilions, on an area of about 2,200 m² located in calle Valle-Inclán, on the same plot where the primitive barracks were located.
In the case of the quartering of the Civil Guard in A Fonsagrada (Lugo) it could be in operation within 15 months. The Government of Spain allocated 4.4 million euros for its construction on an area of 1,316 m², located in Calle Marmoiral.
Ten troops will make use of the buildings and will have three vehicles assigned to service the post, as well as a security detachment from the Judicial Headquarters.
Three new police stations
In this commitment to the advancement and modernization of infrastructures, Pedro Blanco recalled that the Government of Spain has authorized in the second phase of the Infrastructure Plan for State Security (Plise) the provincial police stations in Lugo and Pontevedra, with an allocation of 9 million euros for each one. In addition, the National Police Force will have one more local headquarters in the new Ferrol-Narón police station.
Galicia, second safest regional CCAA in the country
The delegate stressed the commitment of the Government of Spain to the security of citizens, increasing by 7.2% the number of agents of the State Security Forces and Corps.
Galicia has the largest number of troops in its history with 8,895 operational agents of the National Police and the Civil Guard.
In this sense, Galicia ended last year with a crime rate of 35.4 criminal offenses per 1,000 inhabitants. This figure is more than 15 points below the national average, placing the community as the second safest in Spain.
Blanco pointed out that “Galicia is one of the safest communities, which results in a higher quality of life for citizens”. In addition, Galicia achieves a historical rate of police effectiveness. 44.5% of known criminal offences were cleared up in 2025, the best figure of the last decade and two points higher than that registered two years ago.
