The Government Delegation requests the Community of Madrid to restrict mobility in the Sierra de Guadarrama National Park and the Cuenca Alta del Manzanares Regional Park, and also the transit of vehicles in the mountains of public utility for security reasons during the solar eclipse of August 12, following the recommendations made in this regard by the Civil Guard during the coordination meeting held today.
In this meeting, in which the security device has finished being outlined, and which has been presided over by the delegate of the Government of Spain in the Community of Madrid, Francisco Martín, accompanied by the heads of the Citizen Security and Civil Protection units, representatives of: National Police; Civil Guard; Military Emergency Unit; General Directorate of Traffic; the General Directorate of State Roads; the State Highway Demarcation in Madrid; the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET), Renfe Proxias, Adif, General Directorate of Civil Protection and Emergencies of the Community of Madrid, SUMMA 112 and the Regional Transport Consortium of Madrid.
It has been explained that a total of 1,700 National Police and Civil Guard agents will be deployed to ensure security during this day, which will be joined by agents of local police, Civil Protection volunteers and emergency services. The government delegate has highlighted the “important effort” that will be carried out by public servants in a multitudinous event for which half a million displacements are expected in the region.
The main weight of the device will fall on the Civil Guard since almost all municipalities in which observation points have been planned are within its demarcation. The National Police, for its part, will focus on the metropolitan area and large municipalities such as Alcalá de Henares and San Sebastián de los Reyes.
The delegate highlighted the important effort that will be carried out by public servants in a multitudinous event for which half a million displacements are expected in the region. In this regard, he stressed that both the Traffic Group of the Civil Guard, the General Directorate of Roads and the Demarcation of Roads have planned measures to avoid mobility problems.
In the area of the mountains, it will proceed in the same way as during the weekends of the winter season, establishing cuts from the moment when the parking lots are complete.
Recommendations for a safe day
In this line of mobility, Francisco Martín has asked citizens not to park their vehicles outside the authorized areas, avoiding stopping on the sidelines or stopping abruptly, and always avoiding blocking the evacuation routes.
The other big point addressed was the risk of fires, for which the government delegate has again asked for prudence from all citizens who attend to witness it in some natural space.
That is why Francisco Martín has once again insisted on the advisability of the Community of Madrid limiting access to both pedestrians and motor vehicles, beyond what is established by current regulations, to places such as the Sierra de Guadarrama National Park and the Cuenca Alta del Manzanares Regional Park.
He also stressed the importance of having approved glasses to contemplate the eclipse and avoid eye damage.
