In accordance with the provisions of article 16 of the Law 20/2022, of 19 October, on Democratic Memory, it is up to the General State Administration to search for missing persons during the War and the Dictatorship, without prejudice to the competences of other public administrations related to this activity.
These tasks will be carried out gradually and will be supported by maps of the location of missing persons. For its development, the Ministry of the Presidency, Relations with the Courts and Democratic Memory, through the Secretary of State for Democratic Memory, will draw up multi-year plans for searching, locating, exhumating and identifying them.
These plans will be made public on this website with the annual exhumation data, which will include the number of registered petitions, the number of graves and remains of people located, as well as the number of unsuccessful surveys.
The activities for the investigation, tracing and identification of persons who disappeared during the war or subsequent political repression and whose whereabouts are ignored, carried out by the victims or those entities that include the development of such activities among their purposes, may count on the collaboration of the public administrations, within the framework of the public policy for the search for disappeared persons and the established planning, through the financing and assistance mechanisms established.
