The subdelegate of the Government in Ourense, Eladio Santos, today highlighted the Government’s commitment to the safety of the Ourense mountains, with a reform of the base of the Forest Fire Reinforcement Brigade (BRIF) that strengthens the response capacity. The subdelegate supervised this morning the progress of the works carried out by the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge with an investment of 5.8 million euros.
Eladio Santos explained that this action seeks to "provide the team of the BRIF of Laza with more functional, sustainable and safe spaces". He was accompanied by the manager of Tragsa in Ourense, José Manuel García Troitiño, who explained that the main performances are a new main building, with auxiliary buildings, the modification of the path of access, a new fence and the advance of the heliport.
On the other hand, the subdelegate analyzed with the coordinator of the BRIF of Laza, Bruño Ondoño, the perspectives for this summer. "The operative is prepared to act when necessary with the utmost professionalism," Santos confirmed.
In this regard, the deputy delegate reaffirmed that the Government of Spain makes available to the Xunta all the means of State ownership necessary to act in the prevention and extinction of fires, such as the BRIF, Civil Guard, National Police, Civil Protection, the Military Emergency Unit (UME), the Spanish Army, the AEMET and the air means of MITECO, in order to complete the means of the Autonomous Community that has competence in this matter.
In addition, the subdelegate stressed the sensitivity of the Government with the Galician reality after the wave of fires, with more than 29 million euros mobilized in aid, repair of damages and restorations in Galicia.
He also discussed with the BRIF the progress of the working conditions approved by the Government for forest firefighters. "The retirement age reduction coefficient pays off a historical debt and recognizes the harshness of an essential job to protect Galicia," he explained.
Advance of the works
The works already carried out in the modernization of the base of the BRIF of Laza are the previous actions and demolitions; land movements, foundations and structures, roofs, closures and partitions, smoothing and waterproofing.
At the moment the interventions that are in execution are the facades with SATE finishes, the interior coverings of walls and false ceilings; the toilets and kitchens, aluminum exterior carpentry, electricity installations, plumbing and foundation and the urbanization of parking.
