The Government Delegation in Madrid announces the third edition of the “8M” awards. 8 Women, 8 Reasons”, in the framework of the celebration of International Women’s Day, March 8.
This recognition aims to highlight eight stories of women who, either in their daily lives or in exceptional circumstances, have demonstrated a firm commitment to self-improvement and gender equality. The stories may come from women who have overcome obstacles to continue with their academic training, from prominent professional figures who have challenged the gender gap in their workplace, or from mothers who, faced with adversities, have managed to move their families forward, among others. In addition, these women must have some relationship with Madrid, either by birth, residence, work, or because their history is linked to the region.
Of all the nominations received, both individually and on behalf of another person, eight stories will be selected. The elected women will be received by the government delegate at a gala in the week of March 8.
Presentation of candidatures
The candidacies can be submitted, until February 20 inclusive, through the form available on the social networks and the web of the Government Delegation or request through the email gabprensa.madrid@correo.gob.es.
A synopsis of the history that is considered worthy of recognition must be included, along with the personal data, relationship and contact of the person who presents the candidacy and of the candidate herself.
Once the candidacy period is over, the Government Delegation will make a selection of the eight stories chosen to be recognized in this second edition.

Recognitions 2024 and 2025
In the first edition, in 2024, well-known names were recognized such as the actress and activist Itziar Castro; the prosecutor of the Democratic Memory and Human Rights Room Dolores Delgado or the journalist Silvia Intxaurrondo, but also anonymous people such as Benita Navacerrada, daughter of a shot in 1939 and whose remains are expected to be among those recovered in the exhumations of the cemetery of Colmenar Viejo; Esmeralda Bargueño Martín, first trans councillor of the Community of Madrid; María Rosera
In last year’s edition, the second, were distinguished the footballer Jenni Hermoso; the journalist and activist Inés Hernand; the albino presenter Patty Bonet; the association of Single Mothers by Choice; the journalist Carol Mundi, for her visibility of Afghan women; Soledad Muruaga for her work in favor of health from a gender perspective; María Teresa Nieto, neighbor of Torremocha involved in the social activity of her municipality and, in the FCSE, the national police María Marcos Verónica Civil guard.
