The Government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, presided today the meeting of the Territorial Commission of Assistance to the Delegate, in which the response of the immigration services of the four subdelegations of the Government was coordinated before the procedure of extraordinary regularization of migrants, prepared by the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration.
Pedro Blanco met this morning with the three sub-delegates of the Government, in A Coruña, Julio Abalde; in Ourense, Eladio Santos, and in Pontevedra, Abel Losada, and with the sub-delegate of the Government in Lugo, Olimpia López, in the first meeting of the year of the Territorial Assistance Commission, the coordinating and planning body of the General Administration of the State in the Autonomous Community of Galicia.
On the extraordinary regulation of migrants, the delegate recalled that, although the final text has not yet been approved, the Government expects a substantial increase in applications in the Immigration Offices that depend on the Government’s subdelegations. Pedro Blanco showed his confidence in the professionalism of the staff assigned to these offices, which the Government strengthened in May last year coinciding with the entry into force of the new Regulation on Foreigners.
In any case, the delegate explained that the final drafting of the Royal Decree will again pass through the Council of Ministers and, finally, will be published in the Official State Gazette (BOE). Until then, he recalled, it will not be possible to open the deadline for the submission of applications, adding that the forecasts managed by the Government indicate that this opening will be made at the beginning of April.
Total eclipse of 12 August
In today’s session, the Territorial Commission of Assistance to the delegate also advanced in the organization of the devices to attend the celebration of the total eclipse of the Sun on August 12. This natural phenomenon will turn a large part of Galicia into the epicentre of astronomical observation worldwide and will be at the same time, a logistical and security challenge.
Pedro Blanco pointed out the opportunity that this eclipse represents for Galicia, being the first, and most important, of the trio of eclipses planned in Spain until 2028. In line with this forecast, he detailed that the devices being designed will aim to ensure safe mobility, since massive displacements are planned to the areas where the total eclipse can best be observed, as well as security in the locations themselves. The high risk of fires in these agglomerations must also be foreseen or the sight of those who come must be protected.
Action Plan 2025 and objectives for this year
In addition, the meeting of the Territorial Commission of Assistance to the Delegate reviewed the results of the Action Plan 2025 of the General Administration of the State in the territory, which is part of the Strategic Plan 2024-2027, with measures focused on citizenship, public employed personnel and the organization.
Pedro Blanco transferred the subdelegates and subdelegate to the responsibility of continuing to make progress in the provision of public services close to citizenship and of quality throughout the territory.
