- The event has made visible this year the reality of LGBTI+ migrants and refugees, coinciding with the extraordinary process of regularization.

The main façade of the headquarters of the Government Delegation in the Community of Madrid has been wearing the Rainbow Flag since this Friday, as a symbol of the institution’s commitment to equality and the rights of the LGTBI+ community. This year, in the context of the extraordinary regularization process, the event has focused on the reality of LGBTI+ migrants and refugees.
“Today this flag, in the house of the Government of Spain in Madrid, has been placed by LGBTI+ migrants and refugees who have had to leave their countries because of their sexual orientation, their gender identity, their gender expression or their sexual characteristics” said the Government delegate in the Community of Madrid, Francisco Martín Aguirre, who has presided over the placement of the multicolor badge, together with the subdelegate, Pilar Trinidad Núñez.
Paradoxes of Madrid’s politics
In his speech, Martín Aguirre assured that “Madrid is a diverse, open and proud region and a land of refuge built by many people, including LGTBI+ migrants and refugees.”
However, it has called “to remain combative and attentive to the paradoxes of politics”; in relation to policies that reduce the equality of the collective on the part of the Regional Government or the withdrawal of any reference to the claims of the municipal Pride billboard.
The event has brought together various organizations in defense of LGBTI rights such as FELGTBI+, ARCOPOLI, CRISMHOM, COGAM, Fundación 26 de Embre, Fundación EDDY-G, Fundación Pedro Zerolo, HALEGATOS or the Business Network for LGBTI Diversity and Inclusion. There have also been associations working with migrant populations such as CEAR, MIGRANTIA, NGO Rescue or Acción Triangulo. “We deeply regret that this act cannot be replicated in other institutions in our region,” said the delegate.
In addition, the Director General for Real and Effective Equality of LGTBI+ people, Julio Del Valle Iscar; the Undersecretary for Equality, Laura Cadena Lázaro; and the spokesperson of the PSOE in the City of Madrid, Reyes Maroto Illera, have attended.
