The workers of the Delegation of the Government of Spain in the Community of Madrid, headed by the delegate of the Government, Francisco Martín Aguirre, have observed a minute of silence to condemn the latest murders confirmed by alleged gender violence in Huesca, Cantabria and Burgos.
The last confirmed femicide is that of a 53-year-old woman, allegedly murdered by her 63-year-old partner, on January 17, 2026 in Huesca. In Cantabria, the victim is a 64-year-old woman, allegedly murdered by her 52-year-old partner on March 14, 2026. In both cases, there were no prior complaints of gender-based violence against the alleged aggressor.
In the case of Burgos, this is a 58-year-old woman, allegedly murdered by her 59-year-old partner on March 10, 2026. The two were on VioGén with other people and in inactive cases. There were also no previous reports of gender-based violence against the alleged aggressor.
With the confirmation of these cases, the number of women killed by gender violence amounts to 13 in 2026 and to 1,356 since 2003, when these data were first collected. The number of minors orphaned by gender violence in Spain would rise to 10 in 2026 and to 514 since 2013. The number of underage people killed by gender violence in Spain would rise to 2 in 2026 and 67 since 2013.
In the institutional statement, read by the Secretary General of the Delegation, Inés Represa Cuevas, the methods of communication that victims have at their disposal have been recalled, such as telephone 016, online consultations through the email address 016-online@igualdad.gob.es, the WhatsApp channel in the number 600 000 016 and online chat, accessible from the website violenciagenero.igualdad.gob.es, which operate 24 hours a day, every day of the year.
