· The program, promoted within the framework of Generation D, has trained more than 186,000 people and carried out about 24,000 editions throughout the national territory.
· With a budget of 45 million euros from Next Generation EU Funds, about 1.5 million hours of face-to-face training have been provided for people over 60 years of age, with disabilities, in vulnerable situations and without basic digital skills.
· The completion of the program coincides with the publication of the Report on the State of the Digital Decade 2026, which places Spain above the European average in basic digital skills.
The Basic Digital Skills program has concluded with more than 20,500 people trained in the Community of Madrid within the framework of the Generation D initiative, with more than 2,500 editions and more than 164,000 hours of face-to-face training.
At the national level, more than 186,000 people have been trained through face-to-face courses taught in all autonomous communities and cities.
Promoted by Red.es, an entity attached to the Ministry for Digital Transformation and the Public Service, through the Secretary of State for Digitalization and Artificial Intelligence, and with a budget of 45 million euros of Next Generation EU Funds, until last June 30 the program has imparted about 1.5 million hours of training with courses of 8 hours, being more than 60% of the people trained women.
The methodology of the program has been based on face-to-face training in small groups, designed to promote practical learning and adapted to the needs of each participant. A formula especially suitable for the target groups of the program: people over 60 years old, disabled, vulnerable and without basic digital skills.
The participants have acquired knowledge in digital skills that help them in their daily lives, to participate actively in the digital society, such as carrying out procedures with public administrations, using online banking and shopping applications, communicating through digital tools, browsing more securely on the Internet or using digital resources oriented to job search and professional improvement.
In addition to the training, the attendees have had tutorials to resolve doubts and reinforce the knowledge acquired during the courses.
The training itineraries have been organized into seven thematic areas: Your digital environment, Free time management, Communication and social networks, Security and protection, Improve your working life, Ideas for your business and Digital welfare and accompaniment. The topic with the greatest participation has been “Your digital environment”, focused on the practical use of technology for the usual management of daily life.
Face-to-face training throughout the national territory
The training actions have been developed in all the autonomous communities and provinces, as well as in Ceuta and Melilla.
Throughout the implementation of the program, an average of 730 people have been trained each day, achieving 16,000 participants per month during 2026.
The implementation of the courses has been carried out through ten reference entities in the field of training for the target groups of the program, selected by public call: Fundación ONCE, Fundación La Caixa, Fundación Secretariado Gitano, Adecco Formación, Telefónica Educación Digital, Euroformac, G12 Grupo Empresarial de Servicios, Fundación Orange, Orange and Fundación Cyber Volunteers.
Red.es has enabled a monitoring platform that has allowed an efficient and scalable management of the program, facilitating the planning, execution and control of training activities in real time.
Spain, above the European average in digital skills
The completion of the programme coincides with the publication of the European Commission’s State of the Digital Decade 2026 Report. According to Eurostat data used in this report, 66.5% of the Spanish population aged between 16 and 74 years have at least basic digital skills, compared to 60.4% on average in the European Union.
The report also highlights the role of Red.es in the implementation of the Spanish digital strategy and recognizes the contribution of initiatives promoted by the entity in areas such as the digital training of citizens, business digitalization and the promotion of artificial intelligence.
Generation D
Generation D is an initiative of the Government of Spain, which among its objectives seeks to train citizens in transversal digital skills and for employment. Red.es promotes several lines of action within the framework of this initiative, financed by the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan through the Next Generation EU Funds, including the Basic Digital Skills program.
The program Building Generation IA, has 120 million euros for the attraction and retention of talent with 374 training contracts in artificial intelligence and digitalization with some of the most relevant research centers in our country in the field of Artificial Intelligence and digitalization in all scientific and research fields.
on the other hand, Upro It is the digital skills training program in the field of professional associations and has 200 million euros for hybrid training of 150 hours aimed at professionals in the legal, economic, social and engineering sector with an updated and advanced training in digital skills with AI as one of the fundamental axes that already reaches the 3 million hours taught.
