The subdelegate of the Government in Ourense, Eladio Santos, coordinated this Wednesday the different security bodies involved in the special device of the Carnaval 2026 of Verín. "The Civil Guard, the Local Police and Civil Protection are organized in a plan of special effectiveness to achieve a year more safe and fun parties," he explained.
In the City of Verín, Eladio Santos, and the deputy mayor, Diego Lourenzo, co-chaired the Xunta Local de Seguridad in which the situation of citizen security in the municipality, cases of gender violence and the Master Plan for Coexistence in educational centers were analyzed, in addition to addressing the coordination of the security device for the upcoming Carnival celebrations. Alida Iglesias, head of the Unit against Violence against Women of the Government Subdelegation, and representatives of the Xunta, the Civil Guard, the Local Police and Civil Protection also participated in the meeting.
After analyzing the security device of the Carnival, the subdelegate encouraged the citizens to enjoy the days of festivities "with responsibility and complying with the rules" to ensure normality in the celebrations. "The device is prepared and planned to ensure the correct development of programming, but we ask, as always, for citizen collaboration," he said.
With regard to citizen security, the Civil Guard reviewed the crime data for the past year, which shows a drop in the number of crimes of more than 7% in the municipality, with respect to 2024. It also highlights the increase in the clarification index in 2025, since it rose more than 10 percentage points compared to the previous year. Prison offences against property and against individuals can be reduced to a lesser degree.
Gender Violence
Regarding the analysis of data on gender violence, in Verín there are 52 active cases (6 fewer than in the previous Local Security Board a year ago), out of 567 in the province of Ourense. With respect, the subdelegate maintains that "gender violence remains a worrying problem" and calls for "the involvement of the Administrations and the whole society in the fight against this scourge".
Master Plan
The Civil Guard explained that within the framework of the Master Plan for Coexistence and Improvement of Security, its educators and in their environments 24 talks were offered in the centers of the municipality during the last school year, 5 more than in 2023-24. Almost 900 students and more than 60 teachers participated. In addition, the most demanded topics at the moment are harassment and cyberbullying, the use of new technologies and the environment, especially requested from last year’s devastating forest fires.
