The Community of Madrid opens the year with the number of Social Security members on the rise reaching 3,864,495 members. The labor market has added 125,313 workers in the last year, 21,314 in the last month alone.
As for foreign workers, they remain at the peak this month, with 601,866, which is 21,146 more than a year ago, and they already represent 16.12% of the total.
There is a sector that falls in terms of affiliation and is the minor and wholesale trade, although this may be due to the stationary or calendar effect.
Women’s employment grows
It highlights the behavior of employment among women. Specifically, there are 59,297 more affiliates working in the Community of Madrid than a year ago. In one month the Community of Madrid has increased its membership by 0.55% with the incorporation of 21,214 of which 11,805 are women, more than half of the new members. The increase in affiliation at the state level rises to 21.67 million, a new historical peak for a month of February.
Non-professional caregivers continue to increase and in the last month there have been 133 people, mostly women. In the last year, 1391 caregivers have been added, 81.5% are women.
At the national level, maximum historical for one month of February
Social Security adds up to 13 months with more than 10 million women members and reached 10,257,248 in February. Overall, the number of members of the Social Security of 21,670,636 middle affiliates. The labor market has added 474,482 workers in the last year, 97,004 in the last month alone. As for the women, the same 232,871 affiliates occur more than a year ago and almost 1.8 since 2018.
As a result, the favorable evolution of female affiliation contributes to the continued reduction of the gender gap in the employment rate, with a cumulative decrease of 14% since 2018.
In addition, among those currently occupied, there are 1.26 million self-employed; winning 132,053 since 2018. Since 2021, self-employed women have increased by 8.5%, more than that of men, which means that 65% of the employment created in the RETA corresponds to women. Thus, it increases its visibility in sectors of high added value such as Scientific and Technical Activities, etc.
“The quality of women’s employment also noticeably improves, as evidenced by the increase in their contribution bases by 25.9% since 2019, that is 3.6 points more than in men,” says Elma Saiz. “That way, the gender gap in wages is narrowing as well.”
Labour market
Overall, the average membership is close to 21.7 million members, with year-on-year growth of 2.24%. In this context, there are sectors that stand out for having grown much more than the average in the last year. This is the case of Agriculture, Livestock, Forestry and Fisheries (4.8%), Water Supply and Sanitation (4.7%), Transport and Storage (4.6%), Construction (4%) and Real Estate Activities (3.7%).
It also highlights the growth in high added value activities such as Education (3.5%), Health Activities (3.3%), Publishing, Broadcasting and Content Production and Distribution (3.2%) and Telecommunications and Computer Programming (3.1%), as well as Professional, Scientific and Technical Activities (3%).
In the case of self-employed workers, growth in these sectors is even more relevant, since Telecommunications and Programming has grown by 10.7% in the last year, followed by Editorial Activities, Broadcasting and Content Production and Distribution, which has grown by 9.2%.
Overall, the number of self-employed workers, which remains above 3.4 million, has grown by 1.1% in the last year.
More stability and quality in employment
Since February 2021, there has been a great transformation in the types of contracts in our labor market: there are 4,716,953 more with indefinite contract and 1,900,668 less affiliates with temporary contract. There are more and more stable jobs, with more rights and better salaries. The biggest increase occurs between indefinite contracts with full-time working time, with
293,011 more than a year ago. While part-time contracts increase by 62,311.
The weight of temporary workers stands at 11.5%, compared to 29.5% in February 2019. This improvement is even more noticeable among workers aged 55 and over, who have a temporary rate of 9% when seven years ago they had a rate higher than 21%.
