Linguistic precepts in the statute of the Balearic Islands.
Article 4. One’s own language.
1. The Catalan language, typical of the Balearic Islands, will have, along with Spanish, the character of an official language.
2. Everyone has the right to know and use it, and no one may be discriminated against on the basis of language.
3. The institutions of the Balearic Islands will guarantee the normal and official use of the two languages, take the necessary measures to ensure their knowledge and create the conditions that allow to reach the full equality of the two languages in terms of the rights of the citizens of the Balearic Islands.

Article 35. Teaching one’s own language.
The Autonomous Community has exclusive competence for the teaching of the Catalan language, typical of the Balearic Islands, according to the indigenous literary tradition. Normalizing it will be a goal of the public authorities of the Autonomous Community.
The island modalities of Catalan, Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza and Formentera will be studied and protected, without prejudice to the unity of the language.
The official consultative institution for everything related to the Catalan language will be the University of the Balearic Islands. The Autonomous Community of the Balearic Islands will be able to participate in an institution aimed at safeguarding linguistic unity, formed by all communities that recognize the co-functionality of the Catalan language.
The island modalities of Catalan, Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza and Formentera will be studied and protected, without prejudice to the unity of the language.

2. Notaries, registrars of property, mercantiles and movable property shall be appointed by the Autonomous Community in accordance with the laws of the State. For the provision of these places, the specialization in Civil Law of the Balearic Islands and knowledge of the Catalan language will be preferred merits. Second additional provision. Common linguistic heritage.
The Autonomous Community of the Balearic Islands, being the Catalan language also the heritage of other autonomous communities, may request from the Government of the State and the General Courts the cooperation and collaboration agreements that are considered appropriate to safeguard the common linguistic heritage, as well as to carry out cultural communication between the aforementioned communities, without prejudice to the duties of the State established in Article 149(2) of the Constitution and the provisions of Article 145 thereof.
