The subdelegate of the Government in Ourense, Eladio Santos, supervised on Wednesday the security device composed of the Civil Guard, Local Police, Firefighters, Civil Protection and Red Cross to guarantee the normal development of the Carnival of Xinzo de Limia, which will begin next Saturday, January 24, with the traditional "Petardazo" and will last until February 22.
Eladio Santos chaired the regular Xunta Local Security of the City of Xinzo de Limia, in which the mayor of the municipality, Amador Díaz, the head of the Unit against Violence against Women of the Government Subdelegation, Alida Iglesias, and representatives of the Xunta, the Civil Guard and the Local Police also participated.
After the meeting, the subdelegate of the Government encouraged neighbors and visitors to enjoy the days of festivities "with responsibility and complying with the rules" so as not to regret damages. "The device is prepared with an important reinforcement of personnel to ensure the correct development of programming, but we ask, as always, for citizen collaboration," he said.
One of the topics discussed was the capacity control that will be carried out next Saturday, January 24, at the access points to the Plaza Carlos Casares from 21:00 hours, with the aim of preventing risks and protecting attendees. In addition, access with glass objects such as bottles or glasses will be prohibited.
On the other hand, the Xunta Local de Seguridad analyzed the evolution of crime figures in the municipality. Eladio Santos congratulated the Civil Guard, because the percentage of clarification in 2025 was 11 points higher than the previous year and the total number of prison offenses was reduced by more than 5%. It highlights the reduction of crimes against heritage, against people and against sexual freedom.
Gender Violence
With respect to the analysis of data on gender violence, Xinzo de Limia is part of the Comprehensive Monitoring System for Cases of Gender Violence (VioGén). In the municipality there are 27 active cases, out of 572 in the province of Ourense, so the subdelegate warned that "you cannot lower your guard in the fight against this scourge, because there is violence against women on a daily basis and the involvement of all administrations is necessary".
