The subdelegate of the Government in Ourense, Eladio Santos, today highlighted the commitment of the Government of Spain to road safety, with an investment of 9 million euros to repair the roads of Ourense damaged by the successive storms of recent months. “With agility and solvency, the work began just 15 days after the last heavy rains,” he said.
Eladio Santos supervised today the asphalt works of the N-120 as it passed through O Barco de Valdeorras, included in the Special Plan of Repair and Conservation of Roads of the State in Galicia, endowed with 167 million euros, with 38 million extraordinary by the borrascas. Of that amount, more than 8 million are destined to the state road network of the province, as well as 3 million to the N-120 in the provinces of Lugo and Ourense.
The subdelegate thanked the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility for its speed, with an “immediate response” to rehabilitate Ourense’s roads after the damage caused by the mudslides of recent months. In particular, there are planned actions on the A-52 and La-75 motorways and on the N-120, N-525, N-540, N-541 and N-532 roads. “This government acts without delay, with real investment, to restore the good state of the infrastructure and achieve fully safe driving, in the best conditions,” he said.
N-120
Eladio Santos explained that in the N-120 emergency works are being executed for the rehabilitation of the firm for 3 million euros, of which 900,000 correspond to different sections of the province of Ourense, while the rest are destined to the area of Lugo. “It is a fundamental route for the transit of Valdeorras to the provincial capital, so its conservation is a priority,” he said.
Aid for municipal roads
Apart from its own investment in the state road network, recalled the subdelegate, the Government of Spain declared Galicia as a Severely Affected Area by a Civil Protection emergency due to the storm surges, so it grants extraordinary aid for the repair of municipal infrastructures. “The government not only restores and preserves theirs, but also financially helps the municipalities and deputations to repair their roads,” he explained.
Damage from forest fires
In addition, Santos recalls that other actions are being carried out on the province’s state roads to repair the damage caused by last year’s forest fires of 3.8 million euros. These interventions are carried out on the N-120 and N-525 roads and on the A-52 motorway and consist of slope protection, signage, drainage, beaconing and breast feeding.
