The subdelegate of the Government in Ourense, Eladio Santos, co-chaired this morning the Local Security Board of Celanova that addressed the diagnosis of criminal statistics and finalized the security device for the Romería Raigame of Vilanova dos Infantes, which will be held on May 17. After the meeting, he encouraged the citizens to enjoy the celebration “safely and complying with the rules”.
The meeting, held in the City of Celanova, was also co-chaired by the mayor of the municipality, Antonio Puga, and was attended by the territorial director of the Presidency, Justice and Sports of the Xunta, Beatriz Fernández, as well as representatives of the Civil Guard and the Local Police, who also addressed the state of male violence, citizen security and the Master Plan for Coexistence and Improvement of Security in Educational Centers and their Environments.
At the Local Security Board, Eladio Santos coordinated the Security Forces and Corps involved in the special device to ensure the proper development of the Romería Raigame of Vilanova dos Infantes. The operation will also consist of private security and will be reinforced with civil guards from the Citizen Security Unit (USECIC) of the Ourense Command. Even so, Santos appealed to the responsibility of neighbors, neighbors and visitors so that this traditional holiday takes place “safely and with total normality.”
Regarding the review of crime statistics, the subdelegate congratulated the Civil Guard for the work done, which paid off, since in the first quarter of this year 2026 the rate of clarification of crimes committed in the municipality increased by 6 points compared to the same period of the previous year and exceeded the percentage of 51%. In addition, he valued the “close and constant” collaboration between the Civil Guard and the Local Police.
As for the data on gender violence, there are currently 13 active cases in the municipality, 5 more than in the previous Local Security Board. For this reason, Eladio Santos urged not to lower our guard in the fight against gender violence, “a scourge suffered by many women on a daily basis.”
