- The benefit reaches more than 200,000 people, which means an increase in the number of beneficiaries of 18.1%

The Minimum Vital Income (IMV) has arrived in the month of April to 71.098 homes of the Community of Madrid, in which 219,059 people, according to the latest statistics published today by the National Institute of Social Security (INSS).
The figures represent a growth of 1.8% of Madrid households receiving this aid compared to May and 1.9% in the number of beneficiaries, with 1,375 more people. In the year-on-year comparison, the number of beneficiaries rose by 18.2% from 179,022 in May 2025, to 219,059 At present.
Following the evolution of previous months, the IMV is consolidated as a model in which the protection of children occupies a central place. According to the data recorded in May, the number of households in which minors live who have received aid increases, with an increase of 1% from 47,544 to 48,066 households. Currently, (90,276) children and adolescents in the region are beneficiaries of the benefit, which represents 41.4% of the total.
The IMV continues to be feminine, accounting for 54.1% (118,540) of the total beneficiaries and 69.33% (49,295) of the benefit holders; in absolute terms it represents 1003 more women than last month.
By nationality, 15,227 IMV holders come from other countries, 21.41% of the total having increased since last month by 241 people. On a year-on-year basis, foreign holders account for 2,173 benefits more than last year, an increase of 14.27%.
As for the age of the headlines, the majority is between 36 and 55 years old: 34% is between 36-45 years old and 29% is in the range between 46 and 55 years old.
Regarding the average amount of the pension, it reaches 611.59 euros in the Community of Madrid, being at a midpoint, since the average pension is 538.68; some community, such as that of Navarre, reaches 716.78. These averages depend on households with Capi (child protection), hence in communities such as the Basque Country, there are differences in the average benefit between the Basque provinces themselves.
Data at the national level
The Minimum Vital Income (IMV) payroll in May reached 862,859 households, in 590,959 of which minors live together. The benefit protects 2,631,545 people, according to the latest statistics published by the National Social Security Institute (INSS).
The average amount of the benefit is 538.7 euros per household per month and, overall, this month’s payroll has amounted to 500.2 million euros.
In May 2026, there were 146,768 active benefits more than a year ago, having increased the number of protected households by almost 20.5%, a percentage similar to the increase in the number of beneficiaries, almost 20% (437,879) more than in the same month of the previous year.
Both by the profile of the holders and the beneficiaries, we can say that the IMV has a strong female profile. In May, 68% of the headlines (587,066) and 53.4% of the beneficiaries (1,406,210) are women.
In its almost six years of existence, the IMV has protected almost 3.7 million people (3,667,743), gradually adapting to the reality of households and improving their capacity to respond to situations of vulnerability.
Social investment in children
The IMV has been consolidated as a model in which the protection of children occupies a central place. Currently, 1,069,948 children and adolescents are beneficiaries of the benefit, representing 40.7 per cent of the total. In cumulative terms, nearly 1.6 million minors have been covered since 2020 by the benefit.
More than two thirds of the families receiving the IMV have minors in charge (590,959 households, almost 70% of the total), which shows its direct impact on the reduction of child poverty.
