Guadalix de la Sierra has hosted the act of commemoration, at the provincial level, for the 180th anniversary of the foundation of the Civil Guard.
The delegate of the Government of Spain to the Community of Madrid, Francisco Martín Aguirre, has chaired it, accompanied by the Chief General of the 1st Zone of Madrid, General Francisco Almansa, the Chief Colonel of the Command, Carlos de Miguel, and the Mayor of Guadalix de la Sierra, Borja Álvarez.
The mayor of Soto del Real, Noelia Barrado, the mayor of Miraflores, Luis Guadalix, and the mayor of Manzanares el Real, Alicia Gallego, have also attended. The Superior Chiefs of Police of Madrid, Javier María Galván, the Air Forces of the Spanish Army, Brigadier General Pablo Muñoz, and the Municipal Police of Madrid, Pablo Enríquez, among other civil and military authorities, have also attended.
During the event, 23 agents assigned to the units that provide service in the region have been recognized and whose functions include citizen security, road safety, the protection of public buildings, the control of weapons and explosives, criminal investigation or cybersecurity.
Francisco Martín wanted to begin his speech with an “emotional” remembrance of the three agents killed in the line of duty so far this year, and the 243 civilian guards killed and more than 500 wounded by terrorism. “They and they are an inseparable part of our democratic memory. There is no future without justice, nor justice without memory,” he said.
Next, he wanted to highlight the fundamental contribution that the Civil Guard makes to guarantee the principles that underpin the social and democratic rule of law defined by the Constitution and that has consolidated it “as a fundamental body in the guarantee of citizen security”.
In his work as a government delegate, he has also been able to see the important work they do in rural areas, and the recognition they enjoy in the municipalities of the Community of Madrid belonging to the Civil Guard demarcation.
This work translates into “excellent results” in crime data, as shown by those for the year 2025, “the best in history”, and which have contributed to making the Community of Madrid “a safe region and, of Spain, one of the safest places in the world”.
He also wished to reiterate the commitment of the Government of Spain to strengthen the Corps’s resources and to invest in public security. “It’s a priority because we know that a safer country is a better country. And that security is not a luxury: it is a right,” he added. In this regard, he has highlighted public security as “one of the great patrimonies” of Spain, which make possible “progress, equality and well-being”, for which he has thanked the indispensable collaboration of the Civil Guard to “protect it and continue expanding it”.
The commemoration has ended with the Tribute to those who gave their lives for Spain, the Anthem of the Civil Guard and the Parade of the Force.

The Civil Guard was founded under the reign of Elizabeth II, who approved by Royal Decree of May 13, 1844 its organization, entrusted to the Duke of Ahumada, who imposed a foundational foundation that even today, 182 years later, uninterruptedly, remains a reference and whose values: honor, loyalty and service to the citizens continue to mark the direction of the Institution.
