The government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, highlighted today in Nigrán that the transfer of the old health center of Panxón to the City Council is an example of the commitment of the Government of Spain with the municipalities and with the improvement of public services to the citizens. It did so during the act of handing over the keys of the property to the mayor of Nigrán, Juan González, with which the ascription of the building to the City Council is made effective for an initial period of 50 years, renewable, for uses of public interest.
The delegate, accompanied by the provincial director of the General Treasury of Social Security, Juan Herrera, stressed that the reversal was possible thanks to the legal change approved by the Government in 2023, which reformed a regulation in force since 1992 and which for years hindered this type of cession. “With this modification we modernize a clearly outdated rule, improve collaboration with municipalities and allow unused public buildings to be valued and enjoyed by citizens,” he said. This reform opened the door for hundreds of empty buildings throughout Spain and Galicia, owned by Social Security, to have a social utility at the service of other administrations.
Pedro Blanco expressly thanked the mayor of Nigrán and his government team for the work done and the perseverance demonstrated to make this ascription a reality, which responds to a historical demand of the municipality and recovers public heritage that had been unused for more than two decades. The delegate was convinced that the property will meet its objectives in the service of the neighborhood, with a social destination and public utility and put this act as an example of effective institutional collaboration.
In this case, the building will host a social center for elderly people, as well as new facilities for Civil Protection of the Val Miñor. “What belongs to everyone must be at the service of everyone,” concluded Pedro Blanco, who stressed that this assignment reflects a useful and responsible way of valuing public buildings for the direct benefit of citizens.
Resounding condemnation of Mos’ machista murder
The Government delegate joined the minute of silence promoted by the City of Nigrán in condemnation of the male crime of a woman in Mos (Pontevedra), after his statement by the Government Delegation against Gender Violence. Pedro Blanco expressed his condolences and solidarity to the family and people close to the victim and reiterated the firm commitment of the Government of Spain in the fight against gender violence.
