The protected housing statistics published by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Agenda certifies the impact of the investment effort of the Government of Spain in the field of protected housing: in the first quarter of 2026, both the initiated and the completed VPOs have recorded one of their best data since 201, and represent 28% of the total built in Spain.
In the first three months of 2026, in the Community of Madrid, the construction of 1,242 protected homes has begun, which means that during this first quarter 200 more homes have been started than in 2018 and those begun in the first quarter of 2017 have doubled.
As for the finished homes in the Community of Madrid in this quarter reach 1.127 almost double the ones finished both in 2017 and in 2023.
Rent-protected housing has been another of the Government ' s objectives, with 345 units without an option to purchase and 579 units for other tenure schemes.
For its part, housing rehabilitation grew exponentially in Madrid through the state plans. The 37,000 applications were reached during the year 2025, 23% more than the year 2024.

These indicators are aligned with other positive data recorded on public and protected housing at the national level.
Between January and March, the best data of public housing tenders of the historical series was reached. In addition, this milestone was reached after 2025 closed as the third year that the most public budget has been allocated to the construction of protected housing.
