Eladio Santos, deputy delegate of the Government in Ourense, highlighted on Thursday the commitment of the Government to the training of unemployed people as "an essential pillar of equal opportunities". He said this during a visit to two of the training actions launched by the Red Cross in Ourense, with funds from the Ministry of Education, Vocational Training and Sports.
At the meeting, Eladio Santos congratulated the president of the Ourense Red Cross, Felipe Ferreiro, for the important work that the entity develops to help those who need it most in different areas, including employment. "These help lines to train unemployed people would not make sense without the work of organizations like the Red Cross that know the real needs at street level and act with the will to improve people's lives," he said.
The subdelegate explained that the Ministry of Education, Vocational Training and Sports allocated 50 million euros to the Autonomous Community of Galicia for the training of unemployed people through grants to training entities and companies for the annuities 2025 and 2026. “This investment allows us to expand the training offer and facilitate access to itineraries adapted to the real needs of the labor market,” he said.
In this regard, Eladio Santos stressed that these aid lines also contribute to the economic growth of the province of Ourense. "Beyond personal growth, education and professional qualification also seek to strengthen the productive fabric and build a more competitive territory, being true engines of transformation," he said.
Courses of the Red Cross
Thanks to the Government’s investment, the Red Cross is carrying out six training activities in Ourense this year for unemployed people registered with the SEPE: socio-health care for dependent people in social institutions; health care for multiple victims and disasters; teaching in grades La, B, C of the VET system; socio-health care for people in the home; health transport and promotion of free time activities for children and young people.
International protection
The subdelegate visited the facilities of the Ourense Red Cross to also supervise other initiatives financed by the Government and learned first-hand about the work that the entity does to integrate refugees thanks to the Program of Reception and Integration of Applicants and Beneficiaries of International Protection of the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration. Since 2016, when the Ourense Red Cross began to manage this program, 434 people were accompanied in the province, of which 182 come from Ukraine.
