- The contract includes the execution of a new building, two new road beaches, urbanization of spaces for road traffic, as well as the extension and electrification of the contour road.

The Council of Ministers has authorised the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility to tender a contract with an estimated value of 90.4 million euros (VAT not included) for the construction of a new maintenance workshop in the southern part of Madrid for the rolling stock owned by Adif, through Adif High Speed.
In the space that will house the new facilities, located in the surroundings of Villa de Vallecas, conventional and high-speed network infrastructures converge, which makes it ideal for the maintenance work of the rolling stock for both track gauges. These vehicles intended for the maintenance of the railway network must always be available and in optimal conditions to guarantee the operation, safety and continuity of the service.
The contract includes the demolition of the current facilities and the construction of a new workshop building that will include specific equipment for vehicle maintenance activities, such as box jacks, low tracks, low bogies, crane bridges, water and compressed air, etc. The building will also have an area for administration offices, a general warehouse for park pieces and a parking area for dressans.
In addition, two new road beaches will be built. One of them is located in the north of Madrid, destined to train parking and the location of main railway maintenance equipment (washing tunnel, pit lathe and width changer). The other one, on the south side of Barcelona, until its connection with the high-speed line, including a new security handle or starway.
On the other hand, an area will be developed that allows road access and parking of vehicles, both light and heavy, in front of the main façade of the new workshop, and that will include the installation of a clean point for waste storage.
The works also include the extension of the contour line, which starts at the height of the kilometric point 8/198 of the Madrid-Barcelona High-Speed Line until connecting with the conventional line Vallecas Industrial - Villaverde Bajo, at the height of the Rebolledo Link. Likewise, the entire contour track will be electrified.
Park of more than 600 railway vehicles
Adif currently has a fleet of more than 600 railway vehicles designed to guarantee the operation of the network within the most demanding parameters, both in the field of high speed and in the field of conventional lines and metric width.
These include six operating auscultator trains for conventional and standard gauge networks and two others in the development and approval phase; 47 locomotives for both track gauges; dressings and auscultator wagons; wagons, dressings, batters, profilers, snowploughing machines and wagons of different types such as hoppers, platforms, tanks, etc.
These vehicles play a fundamental role in the model of conservation of the railway infrastructure, in which predictive maintenance gains ground to anticipate any eventuality, without forgetting the predictive and corrective aspect.
Adif is immersed in a process of acquisition and integral maintenance of new rolling stock that has been incorporated into the current park in recent years. 3 locomotives for the metric gauge network and an auscultator train for standard gauge tracks are in the production and development phase. In addition, Adif has recently acquired an auscultating resin for the metric width network.
This contract contributes to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) number 9 (reliable, sustainable and quality infrastructure), 7 (sustainability) and 8 (economic and employment growth).
