The resolution of the General Directorate of Traffic published today in the Official State Gazette incorporates the Abo｟｠ -Musel corridor into the Network of Itineraries for Dangerous Goods (RIMP), a measure that will allow the transport of dangerous goods to and from the port of El Musel through a specific itinerary, strengthening the security of access to the port enclosure and avoiding the passage of this type of transport along Avenida Príncipe de Asturias.
The resolution is the result of coordinated work between the General Administration of the State, the Principality of Asturias and the Port Authority of Gijón, and integrates access to the port in the official network of itineraries for dangerous goods through the GJ-10, the AS-118 and the Abo｟｠ -Musel tunnel, Taking advantage of an infrastructure designed to directly connect the port with the high-capacity network and strengthen the security conditions for this type of transport.
With this incorporation to the RIMP, the traffic of dangerous goods linked to the port is ordered, favoring its circulation through an itinerary specifically authorized for it and avoiding its passage through an urban road such as Avenida Príncipe de Asturias. In this way, road safety is improved, the presence of this type of vehicle in residential areas and areas of high traffic intensity is reduced and it contributes to a safer mobility for citizens.
The government delegate in Asturias, Adriana Lastra, stressed that "the publication of this resolution represents an important advance to improve road safety and mobility in the environment of the port of El Musel, while strengthening the competitiveness of a strategic infrastructure for Asturias".
He also pointed out that "the use of the Abo｟｠ -Musel corridor will allow the transport of dangerous goods to be channeled through the route planned for it, removing this traffic from Avenida Príncipe de Asturias and strengthening the security of both access to the port and the urban environment."
Lastra also wanted to highlight the institutional collaboration that has made this action possible. "This resolution demonstrates that the cooperation between the General Administration of the State, the Principality of Asturias and the Port Authority of Gijón allows to respond to the demands of the territory through solutions that improve security, favor economic activity and benefit the citizens."
The incorporation of the Abo｟｠ -Musel corridor into the RIMP will allow to take full advantage of a strategic infrastructure such as the Abo｟｠ -Musel tunnel, optimizing the connection of the port with the high-capacity network and strengthening the logistical competitiveness of a key installation for the Asturian economy, while improving security and quality of life in the urban environment.
