The Deputy Delegate of the Government in Lugo, Olimpia López, made today an institutional visit to the City of Cervantes to know at first hand together with the mayor, Benigno Gómez, and the deputy mayor, Miguel González, the project of advance of the environment of the Castelo de Doiras, an action that will have a total investment of 100,028.50 euros and that will allow to continue advancing in the value of this patrimonial enclave located in the heart of the Ancares of Lucenses.
During the visit, the subdelegate stressed “the importance of continuing to promote projects that contribute to the revitalization of the rural, the conservation of heritage and the creation of economic and tourist opportunities in the territory.”
The project was requested by the City of Cervantes on February 13, 2026 and comes from receiving the favourable resolution of the call for grants. The financing of the action comes from 60% of European funds, with a participation of the Xunta de Galicia of 28% and a contribution of 12% by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food.
The planned actions will allow to improve the services of the environment of the Castelo de Doiras through the adaptation of a venue destined to the exhibition and marketing of local products, the advance of the collection and management of waste, the creation of a recreation area and the installation of lighting in the area. Olimpia López stressed that this type of investment “allows to reinforce the tourist attraction of Cervantes while creating more accessible, sustainable and useful spaces for the landscape and for the visitors”.
The deputy delegate also recalled that the Castle of Doiras opened its doors to the public in March last year, in an institutional act in which the involvement of the institutions in the recovery and opening of this emblematic heritage resource was corroborated. Since then, the castle has established itself as one of the main tourist and cultural attractions of the Ancares region.
In this regard, he highlighted the potential of historical heritage as a generator of economic activity and population fixation in rural areas, as well as the importance of cooperation between administrations to make real actions that have a direct impact on the advancement of the quality of life of citizens.
