- The campaign takes place at night from this evening, focusing on the stretch between the 72 kilometers (Boadilla del Monte) and 85.3 kilometers (Las Rozas).
- The total area where you have been working three summers runs from the link of the M-409 motorway (kilometer 55.5) to the link with the A-6 (kilometer 85.3).
- The work will be carried out at night to minimize the effects on traffic.
- This action is part of SEITT’s investment plan valued at 455 million euros, which will return to an optimal state of operation the motorways reverted to the State and free sections, such as the M-50, managed by SEITT.
The Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, through the State Society of Terrestrial Transport Infrastructures (Seitt), is going to start the second campaign of the rehabilitation works of the M-50 firm in the stretch between the kilometers 55.5 (crossing with the M-409) to 85.3 (crossing with the A-6), as well as the links associated to that stretch. The total budget for these works amounts to 13,805 million euros.
The current work consists of the milling, replacement and reinforcement of the existing firm layer to improve road safety, comfort of use and its durability. The improvement of the sloping sections between kilometers 72 and 85.3 is carried out at night, and includes the renovation of the pavement, road markings and marking in:
- The tunnels of Boadilla and Valdepastores (recently renovated) in the municipality of Boadilla del Monte.
- The final stretch of the M-50, in the municipal terms of Majadahonda and Las Rozas.
With this last performance, the renovation of the pavement of this section III of the M-50 between the kilometers 55.5 and 85.3 in the month of October 2026 will be completed.
After this, from August 24, 2026, the work of milling, replacement of the firm, horizontal signage and marking of the sections that remain pending on the trunk of the M-50 between kilometer 75 and the link with the A-6 motorway will be completed:
- From kilometer 80 to kilometer 85.3, north direction (inner driveway).
- From kilometer 85.3 to kilometer 75, southern direction (exterior driveway).
During these works scheduled at night to produce the minimum possible discomfort to users, the necessary alternative deviations will be made, duly signposted, to distribute the traffics in the work environment.
Investment plan
In 2023, the Council of Ministers authorised the Ministry of Transport to tender the contract of works for the rehabilitation of firmes, in the M-50 Stretch III. Las works were awarded for an amount of €13,805,262.47 (VAT included) and started in May 2024. Since that date, the preliminary work foreseen in the construction project has been carried out.
Section III of the M-50 was inaugurated in 2004, so it has been in service for 22 years. Since then, specific conservation tasks have been carried out until 2024, although the infrastructure needed a deep rehabilitation to continue providing the service in the best conditions. The main difficulty posed by the planned work is the high traffic intensity that this section of M-50 supports, with a weighted daily intensity of around 100,000 vehicles, 10% of which are heavy vehicles.
This work is part of the investment plan of the State Society of Land Transport Infrastructures, S.M.E., S.A. (SEITT), empresa pública dependiente del Ministerio de Transportes y Movilidad Sostenible.
The objective of this plan, endowed with 455 million euros until 2032, is to return to an optimal state of operation the motorways reverted to the State (such as the R-2, R-3, R-4, R-5, and others such as the AP-36, AP-41, AP-7 in Alicante and Cartagena, and the M-12), as well as the free sections managed by the entity, as is the case of the M-50.
The plan includes interventions in eight priority areas: firm rehabilitation, tunnels, structures, signage, Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) and toll systems, noise reduction, lighting and capacity improvements. Specifically, the rehabilitation of firmes represents 50.8% of the total budget, being therefore the main axis of this modernization program.
