The subdelegate of the Government in Lugo, Olimpia López, held today an initial institutional meeting with the mayor of Lugo, Elena Candia, in a meeting in which both leaders addressed different issues of interest to the city and agreed on the importance of maintaining an institutional collaboration relationship between administrations to continue promoting the development of Lugo.
During the meeting, the subdelegate highlighted the firm commitment of the Government of Spain to the city, which translates into the largest mobilization of state resources in its recent history, with more than 66 million euros destined for infrastructure, public services, housing, mobility and urban transformation.
Olimpia López stressed that “the city today collects the fruits of intense institutional work developed over the last few years, which allowed to boost the financing of the main strategic actions for Lugo.” Thanks to this ongoing work, “the city currently has an unprecedented investment portfolio, with projects already in place or with guaranteed financing that will mark its development in the coming decades.”
The subdelegate highlighted “the work done during the last municipal mandates in collaboration with the Government, a cooperation that allowed to unlock historical initiatives for the city and capture investments that are transforming Lugo today.”
In this regard, he stressed that the city is in a particularly relevant moment from the point of view of public investment, in which actions very demanded by the citizens begin to materialize and that “they are the result of sustained planning over time and a firm commitment to the future of the city”.
Among these actions, the new Intermodal station stands out, which represents an investment of 22.3 million euros and which will strengthen railway connectivity and the urban integration of its environment. “It is one of the most important infrastructures promoted in Lugo in recent decades and an action called to play a fundamental role in the modernization of the city.”
The deputy delegate also highlighted the progress of the future National Police Station in the La Abeja neighborhood, after the government only authorized an investment of 9 million euros for its construction. “This action will provide the city with modern facilities adapted to the current needs of the State Security Forces and Corps, also strengthening the operational capacity of the security services in the Lucense capital.”
He also highlighted the granting of 8.7 million euros from the European EDIL funds for the development of the New North project, a strategic initiative for the urban transformation of the city and for the generation of new opportunities for economic and social development.
Olimpia López stressed that these actions are not announced projects, but projects already committed, funded and in different phases of execution.
Finally, the deputy delegate transferred to the mayor the full willingness of the Government Subdelegation to continue collaborating with the City Council from institutional loyalty and cooperation between administrations, with the shared objective of continuing to advance projects that contribute to the progress of the city and the improvement of the quality of life of its neighbors.
