- The government delegate to the Community of Madrid, Francisco Martín, and the mayor of Alcorcón, Candelaria Testa, have today accompanied the Secretary of State for Migration, Pilar Cancela, on her visit to the Social Services Center of the City of Alcorcón.
- This council has made available to foreign persons residing in the municipality, the Aliens Information and Guidance Service in order to offer all the personalized information in each case as well as the necessary support in the ways of providing the request in competent bodies around this process.
The City of Alcorcón has strengthened its municipal services in the offices of attention, registration or in the municipal register, and has organized information and accompaniment talks for migrants who want to join the process of extraordinary regularization under way, in what constitutes an example of “good practices” of contribution of the local administration to these efforts.
This has been defended today by the government delegate in the Community of Madrid, Francisco Martín, together with the mayor of Alcorcón, Candelaria Testa, in the visit in which they have accompanied today the Secretary of State for Migration, Pilar Cancela, to the center of Social Services "Adolfo Suárez" of the town.
Here, the Aliens Information and Guidance Service has been made available to foreigners residing in Alcorcón in order to offer all the personalized information in each case as well as the necessary support in the ways of providing the application in competent bodies related to this process, including the certificate of vulnerability.
Accompanied by the councilor for Social Services and Disability, Pilar Jiménez, they have seen how the procedure is carried out and have attended one of the sessions of attention to migrants, whose main objective is to make it as easy as possible for the foreign population of Alcorcón to submit applications and documentation to be able to benefit from this extraordinary process.
The government delegate has claimed “the example” that Alcorcón represents for the rest of the municipalities in the region and the demonstration that “when you want, you can”. In the same vein, the mayor said, suggesting that, from the municipalities, the best attitude that can be adopted is to “complain less and work more”.
For her part, the Secretary of State has stressed that what this Consistory is doing is “the most obvious example of what administrative cooperation should be”, and has defended that the extraordinary regularization process is “an opportunity” for the country, also for its autonomous communities and for its municipalities.
“First you have to think about people,” he said, “but for those who want to see it from a purely economic perspective, it is also beneficial because it will allow them to continue growing thanks to the contribution of migrants who are already in Spain and who will be able to contribute to sustaining the welfare state.”
At the same time, it has rejected the hate speeches that seek to criminalize the migrant population and the attitude of those who seek to confront this issue. “We are building a country of rights,” he said.
In this same vein, Francisco Martín has insisted that the Spanish Government does not work for noise, “but for solutions”, and has reiterated, once again, to the other Madrid administrations the request that they follow the example of Alcorcón and collaborate in the process.
