Coslada, January 27, 2026.- The Commissioner Laura Delgado de las Heras has taken office today at the head of the National Police Station of Coslada – San Fernando de Henares in an act presided over by the delegate of the Government of Spain in the Community of Madrid, Francisco Martín Aguirre.
They have attended: the mayors of Coslada, Ángel Viveros, and San Fernando de Henares, Javier Corpa; the mayor of Velilla de San Antonio, Antonia Alcázar; the Superior Chief of the National Police, Javier Galván and other institutional and business and civil representatives of both localities.
Francisco Martín wanted to underline the “added value” of the fact that the person who assumes this responsibility is a woman, since it is a sign that he is part of an institution, the National Police, that “advances, that is modernized and that wants to incorporate all available talent”.
In this regard, he recalled that it was in 1978 that women joined this police force and that, currently, women represent just over 20% of the workforce. “That is why the commitment that the Ministry of the Interior is promoting, through the directorates-general of the National Police and the Civil Guard, is important, with the approval of a package of positive action measures with a clear objective: to reach at least 40% of women in access promotions before 2030,” he said.
Among the measures adopted in recent years, the elimination of the minimum height requirement or the possibility of postponing selection tests in case of pregnancy, childbirth or postpartum, and also the postponement for the completion or completion of the course of access to practices if this situation occurs after the tests have been passed.
To these is added another one that is particularly relevant for conciliation: that both women and men who must postpone their entry to the course due to pregnancy, birth, adoption or fostering are discharged as interns, so that their seniority is not reduced and disadvantages that have historically fallen more heavily on women are corrected.
In his opinion, “it is necessary to continue advancing in initiatives that eliminate any obstacle, imbalance or discrimination that prevent the achievement of real equality as soon as possible, both in terms of numbers of personnel and in positions occupied in all areas of work, including those of greater responsibility and representation,” and he has shown his commitment and that of the Government of Spain to do “everything possible to make it so.”
Safe Cities in a Safe Community
On the other hand, the government delegate has defended the existence of a Commissariat that serves both Coslada and San Fernando de Henares, which are not only neighboring towns, but form a continuous urban space, an intensely connected social and economic environment, where more than 120,000 people share daily mobility, services, economic activity and neighborhood relations.
Both municipalities are below the national average and, especially, below the regional average in crime rate (Coslada has a rate of 43.6 and San Fernando de Henares, 44.1), which is the result of “constant work, coordination and professionalism”, although there is always room for improvement.
Francisco Martín recalled that, since 2018, the Community of Madrid has 11% more police personnel, and specifically 16% more National Police.

In her 33 years of police career, Commissioner Laura Delgado de las Heras has been closely linked to the field of citizen security. This was his responsibility in the Local Brigade of Citizen Security of Pozuelo, although his last destination before the appointment was in document management of the Provincial Brigade of Foreigners and Borders.
