The Tajo Hydrographic Confederation (CHT), an autonomous body attached to the Ministry for Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge (MITECO), maintains Scenario 0 of emergency in the dams of San Juan (Madrid), Picadas (Madrid), Los Morales (Madrid), El Pajarero (Ávila), Burguillo and Charco del Cura (Ávila) in line with the declaration of operational situation 2 of the special plan of emergency civil protection for forest fires in the Community of Madrid.
The forest fires have not caused significant damage to the infrastructures managed by the CHT, highlighting only the complete destruction of the administration house of the San Juan dam.
The CHT, through the Standing Committee of the Unpacking Commission and in accordance with ORDER 3065/2026, of 30 July, of the Minister of the Environment, Agriculture and Interior, prohibits bathing, sailing and recreational aquatic activity in the San Juan Reservoir, located in the provinces of Madrid and Ávila.
Likewise, the increased dereservoirs from the dams of Burguillo, San Juan and Picadas are maintained as a collaborative measure in the work of control and extinguishment of the fires.
The Tajo Hydrographic Confederation (CHT) has been participating in the meetings of the Integrated Operational Coordination Centers (CECOPI) to collaborate in the monitoring and planning of the emergency operation.
To date, the major forest fires have affected more than 100,000 hectares of the Tagus basin, doubling the area recorded at the close of last summer. The CHT is already working on prioritizing actions, as a matter of urgency, to correct and mitigate the effects of fires on the hydraulic public domain, in collaboration with regional and local administrations.
The Standing Committee of the Unpacking Commission:
It is automatically constituted in cases of avenues or other exceptional circumstances.
It is made up of the President of the Agency, the Commissioner of Waters, the Technical Director and the Chief of Exploitation, being able to adopt the measures it deems appropriate, without prejudice to the regulations for this purpose in the field of civil protection.
It is an information and advisory body of the competent authorities in the field of civil protection in flood emergencies.
