04/06/2026

The crime rate drops to 35.2 criminal offenses per 1,000 inhabitants and is again 15 points below the national average

The government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, highlighted today that Galicia renewed in March its second place among the safest communities in Spain, which it had reached in December last year. This is evident from the Crime Balance published this morning by the Ministry of the Interior and which corresponds to the first quarter of this year 2026.

From the analysis of the figures in this report, the delegate meant that Galicia ended the first quarter with a crime rate of 35.2 criminal offenses per 1,000 inhabitants. This figure is two tenths lower than last year and is more than 15 points below the national average consolidating Galicia as a safe territory “for citizenship and economic activity”.

Between January and March, 22,812 criminal offences were registered in Galicia, 1.9% less than in the same period of 2025. Conventional crime fell by 1.7%, with a significant decrease in thefts of 11% and crimes against sexual freedom, 10% less. But, even more, cybercrime is on the decline, breaking with the upward trend of the previous months. Between January and March, 2.3% fewer cybercrimes were known, which still account for almost 30% of all criminal offenses.

At the provincial level, the delegate stressed that the crime rate is low for the first time in all provinces: in A Coruña, the rate remains at 38.2 (decrease of one tenth), in Lugo, the rate in March is 29 (two tenths less than the previous year); in Ourense the rate is low half point to 31.2 and Pontevedra remains at 35, noting a drop of two tenths.

Congratulation to the Security Forces and Bodies

Pedro Blanco congratulated the men and women of the State Security Bodies and Forces destined in Galicia for these results, which are linked to a high rate of police effectiveness, with more than 44% of crimes resolved in this quarter, “a new sign of professionalism and commitment to the security and well-being of this land professed by the National Police and Civil Guard,” he concluded.
