The government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, acknowledged today the contribution of the men and women of the Civil Guard so that Galicia has consolidated its position as the second safest Autonomous Community of Spain, a position that has revalidated in the first months of this year 2026. It did so during the institutional act to commemorate the 182nd anniversary of the Civil Guard Foundation, which was held in the Pazo de Mariñán, in Bergondo (A Coruña).
Pedro Blanco conveyed his congratulations, that of the Galician citizens and that of the Government of Spain to the Galician Zone of the Civil Guard for these figures, which, he said, “involve the responsibility of continuing to work in this line.” Last year, the delegate stressed that the Civil Guard completed “an exceptional service sheet”, with actions “essential in the terrible wave of fires, going through the unwavering fight against drug trafficking and criminal gangs, security and coexistence in educational centers, the protection of women victims of male violence or the help of elderly and minors.”
To these services, the delegate added a special mention to the tasks performed by the units specialized in telematic crimes, especially those of prevention and sensitization.
Best Efficiency Rate of the Decade
Pedro Blanco also congratulated the Civil Guard for the police effectiveness achieved this year, as it closed 2025 with the best crime resolution rate of the last decade. With these figures, the delegate highlighted the commitment of the Government of Spain to provide the Civil Guard with the best tools and facilities, and detailed among them, the renovation of the barracks of Santiago, Verín, Cambados and A Fonsagrada.
Finally, the delegate listed some of the security challenges for the coming months, including: “Operation Summer, the protection of our forest and natural resources in the face of the threat of fire, the essential attention to women threatened by male violence, the safety of roads and the actions derived from the phenomenon of eclipse”.
Decorations and step to the reservation
In addition, the ceremony awarded decorations to the guards distinguished by their service and trajectory and a tribute was paid to the agents who went into the reserve situation.
Along with the delegate, the Chief General of the Civil Guard, Miguel Ángel González; the President of the County Council of A Coruña, Valentín González; the Mayor of Bergondo, Alejandra Pérez; the Deputy Delegate of the Government in A Coruña, Julio Abalde, and the General Director of Emergencies and Interior of the Xunta, Santiago Villanueva, among other authorities, also attended this commemoration.
