The number of unemployed people registered in the offices of the public employment services of the Community of Madrid stood at the end of July at 273,631 people. In year-on-year terms, the registered unemployment fell by 2,245 people, which represents a reduction of 0.81% compared to the same month of the previous year. With respect to the month of June, unemployment increased by 3,822 people (1.42%).
Unemployment by sex and age
Women account for 59.9% of the total number of unemployed persons registered in the Community of Madrid, while men account for 40.1%. People under the age of 25 account for 6.3% of the total registered unemployed.
Unemployment by sector
The services sector accounts for the largest volume of unemployment, with 222,280 people registered, followed by the previous unemployed group. Among those seeking their first job, those over 44 years of age stand out, representing 32.15% of the total of this group. Foreign unemployed persons account for 50,530, which represents 18.4% of the total number of persons registered in the Community of Madrid.
Contracting
During the month of July 215,405 contracts were registered in the Community of Madrid. Of the total, 84,679 were indefinite contracts. In addition, 35,374 temporary contracts were transformed into indefinite contracts, consolidating stable employment, especially among workers between 30 and 45 years old.
Benefits
Data for the month of June show that 58,143 applications for benefits ended in discharge, with an average period of recognition of 2.7 days. The number of active unemployment benefits in the Community of Madrid amounts to 256,985, of which 201,469 correspond to contributory benefits.
National situation
At the national level, the registered unemployment stood at the end of July at 2,311,499 people, the lowest figure this month since 2007. In year-on-year terms, unemployment fell by 93,107 people (-3.87%), while unemployment among children under 25 marked the lowest level in the historical series. In addition, employment maintains a solid growth rate, with a new record high of 22,508,065 average Social Security members.
