- The Ministry signs the contract that will study the feasibility of connecting through Proxiías Móstoles and Navalcarnero and assess its connection with other municipalities in the area
- The Ministry will thus complete the construction of this infrastructure initiated by the Community of Madrid in 2009 and paralysed three years later.
- The contract has been formalized with the company IDOM CONSULTING, ENGINEERING, ARCHITLECTURA, S.A.U. With a budget of 619,266 euros and a term of 24 months for its writing.
The Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility has formalized, for 619,266 euros (VAT included), the contract to develop the feasibility study of the railway connection between Móstoles and Navalcarnero and the extension of its benefits to other municipalities in the southwest of Madrid.” The writing of this study has an initial period of 24 months.
The study will analyze the viability of the railway connection between Móstoles and Navalcarnero, as well as the compatibility of this connection with other extensions of Cerca in its environment.
The Ministry thus assumes the construction of this infrastructure, in line with the commitment announced by Minister Óscar Puente last July. Then, the minister sent a letter to the president of the Community of Madrid in which he offered the willingness of the Ministry to take charge of the pending works to extend the network of Neighbourhoods to the town of Navalcarnero, whose first step is this feasibility study.
The works were started by the Community of Madrid in 2009 as a result of a protocol signed between it and the General Administration of the State, on the basis of which the former assumed the construction of the work and the AGE the operation of the line. A year after its inception, the works were paralysed and so far unfinished.
Feasibility study
The study will include the analysis of the southwest and west area of the Community of Madrid, proposing other possible actions to provide railway service to other municipalities in the area and studying the compatibility of the extension to Navalcarnero with other extensions of the Madrid Neighbourhoods network.
Likewise, the mobility of the surrounding localities towards the new stations proposed will be studied, so that a public transport scheme can be designed that allows the benefits of the new lines to be extended to other populations.
The Ministry considers the extension of Cerca to Navalcarnero to be positive, given that it is a corridor with great growth potential that includes not only this municipality, whose projections of population increase are notable, but also an area of influence that could benefit many other municipalities close to the corridor, such as Cenientos, Sevilla la Nueva or Navas del Rey.
This contract will allow to know the degree of execution of the works carried out by the Community of Madrid and later paralyzed, as well as determine the state in which they are and their possible use for the new project.
In this context, a functional and operational analysis of the current station of Mó -El Soto should be carried out as a possible intermediate header of the line.
Boosting sustainable mobility
These works will promote sustainable metropolitan mobility, through the Commuter service and increase the levels of accessibility and social cohesion through a quality railway system.
The action responds to the objectives of the Sustainable, Secure and Connected Mobility Strategy 2030, aimed at improving social cohesion, economic growth and solving real mobility problems. The railway mode of transport aligns with these objectives and contributes to sustainable mobility from a social, economic and environmental point of view.
In addition, in 2022 the Ministry approved the Indicative Strategy for the development, maintenance and renewal of the railway infrastructure, framed in the current legislation of the Railway Sector. The main mission of this strategy is to establish a financial framework and priorities for railway planning, establishing a set of basic guidelines aimed at satisfying future mobility needs and the financial sustainability of the railway system. Within this strategic framework arises the convenience of analyzing the viability of the connection between Móstoles and Navalcarnero.
