The workers of the Delegation of the Government of Spain in the Community of Madrid, headed by the subdelegate, Pilar Trinidad Núñez, have observed a minute of silence to condemn the last five confirmed murders of alleged gender violence in Illes Balears, Cádiz, Badajoz, Málaga and Pontevedra.
The last confirmed case was that of María Belén, 52 years old, allegedly murdered by her former partner, 67 years old, on February 1 in the province of Pontevedra. There were no prior complaints of gender-based violence against the alleged aggressor. In the case of Malaga, Victoria, 33 years old, was allegedly murdered by her ex-partner on January 24. The victim had two minor daughters and one minor son in common with the aggressor, against whom there were previous complaints.
In the province of Badajoz, María del Carmen, 78 years old, was allegedly murdered by her partner on January 12. There were no prior complaints from the woman about the alleged murderer. And on January 11, in the province of Cadiz, there was the murder of María Isabel, 58 years old, allegedly at the hands of her partner. There were no previous complaints either.
Likewise, the Delegation has condemned the alleged homicide in Illes Balears of María Teresa, 27 years old, who died at the hands of her partner. The events took place on February 3, 2025 and, if in principle it was considered a case of natural death, it has finally been processed as gender violence, bringing the number of women killed last year to 47. Both were on VioGén, but with other people.
With the confirmation of these cases, the number of women killed by gender violence amounts to 6 in 2026 and 1,349 since 2003, when these data were first collected. And the number of underage people orphaned by gender violence against their mother amounts to 5 in 2026 and 510 since 2013.
The institutional statement has been read by the head of the Coordination Unit against Violence against Women of the Government Delegation, Eva Corrales Melero. In it they have recalled the communication methods that victims have at their disposal, such as the telephone 016, online consultations through the email address 016-online@igualdad.gob.es, the WhatsApp channel in the number 600 000 016 and online chat, accessible from the website violenciagenero.igualdad.gob.es, which operate 24 hours a day, every day of the year.
