The government delegate in Madrid, Francisco Martín Aguirre, has seen first-hand the Circular Photonics photonic sensor project, co-financed by the Center for Technological Development and Innovation (CDTI) with funds from the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan (PERTE) and which has involved an investment of 1.39 million euros.
It was during his visit to the technology company Mirai Services, developer of the project, in which he was accompanied by the Secretary of State for Science, Innovation and Universities, Juan Cruz Cigudosa. During a guided tour by the CEO of Mirai Services, Carlos Cosín Canónica, they have known the details of this technology aimed at the design of photonic sensors capable of identifying chiral molecules and contaminants with greater precision and sustainability.
With a total budget of 2,077,933 euros, the project has had an investment of 1,390,630 euros co-financed by the CDTI with PERTE funds. In this regard, Francisco Martín has highlighted the commitment of the Government of Spain to R+D+I which, in the region of Madrid, has materialized in an average annual investment of 1,150 million euros since 2018.
In total, between 2018 and 2024, the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities invested 8,068.5 million euros in calls for projects and in R+D+I facilities and centers, Madrid being the Autonomous Community that has received the most funds from the Government for science and innovation.
“The Government of Spain has made an extraordinary multiplication in investment in science and technology in these years and very particularly this translates into Madrid. As you know, the Spanish Government has invested more than double what the Community of Madrid itself has invested. Advanced photonic sensors
Thanks to the development of advanced photonic sensors, the Circular Photonics project aims to identify chiral molecules; detect contaminants with greater precision; improve environmental monitoring and have application in strategic sectors such as health or the agri-food industry. In the field of health, the company has highlighted its possible use to detect tumor cells.
Among other practical applications in the field of the agri-food industry, this technology allows the improvement of efficiency in production processes, the improvement of sustainability and the reinforcement of safety for citizens by allowing a faster and more effective detection of pollutants.
