After the celebration of International Women’s Day, it can be said that foreign women bring enormous added value in Madrid. Of the total number of foreigners affiliated in the Community, more than 47% are women and more than 68% of them come from outside the European Union. Currently, in Madrid, a total of 294,165 women from all over the world work.
These figures reflect the labor and demographic contribution of foreign women in Spain, their growing presence in the training and academic field, and reinforce their strategic role in the economic and social development of the country.
44.2% of these women are listed under the general scheme, of which just over 67% come from outside the European Union.
Protection from war
Among these foreign women, 44,668 are Ukrainians living in the Community of Madrid. Of these, 12,847 are listed under the general full-time scheme of the 25,960 women in the general scheme. Meanwhile, the autonomous Ukrainians are hitting 6,323.
In terms of their dedication, of all of them, 466 women are dedicated to engineering, experts and qualified assistants and 1,251 are engineers and graduates.
At the national level
According to the IPO, a total of 3,581,558 women present residence documents in force in Spain as of September 30, 2025, which represents 48% of the total number of documented persons. 41% of them come from countries of the European Union (1,459,397).
If we look at the distribution of foreign women residing in force by nationality, the largest group is women from Romania (531,041), followed by women of Moroccan (414,171) and Italian nationality (227,886). As for the geographical distribution of these women in our country, 68% are concentrated in four autonomous communities: Catalonia (21%), Community of Madrid (17%) Andalusia (15%) and Valencia (15%).
In the period between 2015 and 2024, just over 724,000 women obtained citizenship by residence, 55% of the total number of people nationalized by this route.
Key contribution to the labour market
The Social Security affiliation data for January 2026 reflect a total of 1,294,259 foreign women affiliated, which consolidates the structural weight of female migrant employment in the Spanish labor market and demonstrates its growing contribution to the sustainability of the social protection system. These data represent 43% of the total number of foreign affiliated persons.
