Linguistic precepts in the Galician statute.
Article 5
1. Galicia’s own language is Galician.
2. The Galician and Spanish languages are official in Galicia and everyone has the right to know and use them.
3. The public authorities of Galicia will guarantee the normal and official use of the two languages and will promote the use of Galician in all areas of public, cultural and informative life, and will provide the necessary means to facilitate their knowledge.
4. No one may be discriminated against on the basis of language.

Article 25
In the resolution of the contests and competitions to provide the positions of Magistrates, Judges, Judicial Secretaries, Prosecutors and all officials in the service of the Administration of Justice, the preferential merit will be the specialization in Galician Law and knowledge of the language of the country.
Article 26
1. Notaries and Property and Commercial Registrars will be appointed by the Autonomous Community, in accordance with the laws of the State. For the provision of notaries, candidates will be admitted in equal rights, whether they exercise in the territory of Galicia or in the rest of Spain. In these contests and competitions, the specialization in Galician law and knowledge of the language of the country will be a preferential merit. In no case may the exception of nature or neighbourhood be established.
