Unemployment in the Community of Madrid in April 2026 fell by 2.21 percentage points compared to March; this means that 6,249 people found work in the month of April. The number of registered unemployed stands at 276,376. This total number of unemployed is the lowest figure in a month of April since 2008.
With respect to April 2025, 12,856 fewer unemployed have been registered in the region of Madrid, which represents a year-on-year decrease of 4.44%. As for foreign citizens, unemployment also falls: of the 50,083 registered, 745 people have found employment last month and in year-on-year terms 2,631, which is a 5% reduction compared to last year. In addition, of the 50,083 unemployed foreigners, more than half come from the service sector (35,757).
By economic sectors, with respect to April, unemployment is reduced in all sectors, especially in the Services sector, which is the sector that brings together the highest number of unemployed: as of the 6,249 employed, 4,914 people have found employment in services; construction follows with 483; in industry 294 people have found employment, while Agriculture has employed 43 workers. For its part, the group Sin Empleo Anterior, descends in 515 people.
By sex, of the total number of unemployed in the Community of Madrid in the fourth month of the year, 112,164 are men and 164,212 are women, which represents 59.4%. By age, unemployment among young people under 25 years of age stands at 18,538, affecting 10,141 men and increasing by 687; while in the group over 25 years of age it affects more women than 155,815 unemployed, compared to 102,023 in the case of men.
Regarding the previous group of unemployed people, it should be noted that of the 18,351, the majority of them, 32.24% are over 44 years old; if we add to the latter group those who are between 30-44 years old the unemployment of unemployed people before reaches 58.3 7%. Unemployment affects 2,330 children under 20 years of age and 2,954 young people between 20 and 24 years of age.
As for unemployment by sex among the previous unemployed group, it affects women more than men, since they account for 65.13%.
Unemployment continues to fall in the Autonomous Communities
In absolute terms, unemployment fell in all the autonomous communities with Andalusia (-22,393 people), Catalonia (-8,949 people) and the Community of Madrid (-6,249 people) in the lead.
In the whole of Spain, the number of unemployed and unemployed registered in the offices of the Public Service of State Employment (SEPE), at the end of April, has decreased by 62,668 in relation to the previous month – (2.59%). Meanwhile. Year-on-year unemployment has fallen by 155,674 people.
The total registered unemployment has stood at 2,357,044 people. By economic sectors, with respect to February, the registered unemployment fell in Services by 18,852 people (-1.1%), Construction by 5,846 people (-3.4%) and Industry by 1,482 people (-0.8%). It increases very slightly in Agriculture by 365 people (0.5%) and among the No Previous Job collective by 2,881 people (1.3%).
New contracts
The total number of contracts registered during the month of April at the national level has been 1,258,296. Of this total, 543,543 employment contracts are of an indefinite nature and account for 43.2%.
While in the Community of Madrid, contracts amount to 176,851, which represents an increase of an upward variation of 15.94% compared to the previous year; it is true that they have fallen on a monthly level. As for the type of contract, of the 176,851, the indefinite amounts to 87,120 contracts.
Most of the contracts signed in the Community of Madrid go to the services sector reaching 88.5%.
At a year-on-year level, contracts with foreigners have also risen by almost 29 points, especially among people arriving from countries outside the EU. Although, the monthly variation in this month of April has been negative.
Unemployment benefits in April
The existing beneficiaries and beneficiaries at the end of April were 56,039 in Madrid. Meanwhile, there have been 48,251 highs during the month of March 2026 with a resolution period of 3.8 days. Thus, the number of benefits in Madrid reached 157,783 people in March and represents an expense of more than 269 million euros, placing the average benefit at 1064.8 euros per personay month.
As for the origin of the foreign beneficiaries of this unemployment benefit, 18% come from Morocco, followed by Romania with almost 16% and Colombia and Italy with around 6.7%.
