The subdelegate of the Government in Ourense, Eladio Santos, highlighted this Friday "the firm support" offered by the Government of Spain to the Ourense wine sector, as shown by the payment of direct aid to farmers and ranchers affected by the devastating forest fires of 2025. He did so during a visit to an autonomous wine grower in Vilamartín de Valdeorras, a municipality that was affected by the fire originated in Larouco, the largest in the history of Galicia.
The subdelegate met this Friday morning with the winegrower José Luis Rodríguez Ferrer to learn about his concerns and make himself available to the sector for what they need, once he has already received an aid of 10,000 euros from the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPA).
Eladio Santos thanked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Luis Planas, for the work done to pay the aid in a record time and without the need to request it, without bureaucracy. "Once again, the Government of Spain complies with the primary sector and with Ourense," said the deputy delegate, who recalled that the amount paid to farmers and farmers in Galicia was 4.9 million euros.
In this regard, the deputy delegate regretted that the great forest fires affected agricultural production, the rural economy and the work of generations of families.” "It is essential that all administrations are on the side of farmers and ranchers so that our rural world has a future," he said.
27.8M€ of grants
The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food began on December 3 to pay the more than 27.8 million euros in direct aid to 9,679 farmers and ranchers throughout Spain. The beneficiaries received through their mobile phone the notification of the entry of the aid into the account of their financial institution. The amounts of grants awarded range from EUR 1 500 to EUR 10 000. The bulk of the aid, EUR 21.5 million, goes to 3,446 people affected, to compensate for the loss of income; from this item, more than EUR 4 million goes to Galicia. The other 6.3 million euros correspond to the increase in the subsidy for the contracting of agricultural insurance, up to 70% of the cost of the policy, and it is received by 6,647 owners of farms that are covered part of the cost of their agricultural insurance; more than 965,000 euros of this aid were for Galicia.
Reconstruction of infrastructures
The subdelegate explained that this investment adds to the 3.8 million euros that the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility allocates to the repair works of the main roads of the province affected by the forest fires and to the almost 9 million euros allocated to the subsidies to repair municipal roads damaged for the same reason throughout Spain, open until February 5. This call, approved on December 29, 2025, is aimed at municipalities, deputies, island councils, uniprovincial autonomous communities, counties and townships.
