(Render of the project)
The Government authorizes the construction of a new station of Neighbourhoods in the municipality of Tres Cantos in Madrid for 19.3 million euros
On the C-4b line of Cerca de Madrid
- It will have a passenger building, two platforms of 220 meters in length and a passage between platforms at different levels.
- It will have a staggered roof in three heights to favor its integration with the environment, the entry of natural light and protect travelers.
- It will be located between the current stations of Tres Cantos and Colmenar Viejo, in an area with great urban potential with the most important audiovisual hub in Europe, a university campus, sports facilities and a hospital.
The Council of Ministers has today authorized the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility to tender, through ADIF, the construction of a new station in the north of the municipality of Tres Cantos in Madrid, with an estimated value of 19.35 million euros (VAT not included).
The future station, included in the Madrid Commuter Plan, is the result of the conclusions of the socio-economic studies carried out by Adif. The demand analysis suggests that, when service provision begins, 10,000 trips per day will be made from the station, a figure that could almost double in the future.
Framed on line C-4b, it will be located between the current stations of Colmenar Viejo and Tres Cantos, in the northern area of the latter municipality, in which in addition to numerous homes is located Madrid Content City, the hub the most important audiovisual in Europe, as well as a university campus, various sports and leisure facilities and a hospital.
Accessible tours
The station will have a passenger building and two side platforms of 220 meters long and 5.5 meters wide, partially covered by canopies, and a connecting passage on a different level between the two, fully accessible. The spaces under the platforms will be used for the construction of different technical units.
The building will house a diaphanous lobby, toilets, various spaces for station workers, turnstiles, self-sale machines and a cafeteria with terrace.
In addition, it will have a staggered roof in three heights to favor its integration in the plot, in flight over the access plaza to facilitate the transition and protection of travelers, as well as to favor the entry of natural light. It will also have an irregular perimeter to adapt to the access flows from the square.
The building has been designed to ensure optimal travel for passengers, taking into account that the roads are elevated with respect to the urban environment, as well as to respond to the needs of passenger care and railway operation.
To enable the new commercial stop and the installation of the station, the project also includes the adaptation and adaptation of the railway infrastructure, and of the electrification and control, command and signalling facilities.
The contract also includes the partial urbanization of the access plaza, which will have areas for stopping public transport vehicles (bus, taxi) and emergency vehicles, as well as bicycle parking and connection with the existing bike lane in the municipality. It also includes the conditioning of the slopes, the perimeter enclosures, which will be integrated in a harmonized way with the design of the station and the new urban environment, and the provisional accesses to the station.
The station will be connected to the urban plot by means of two road and pedestrian accesses, compatible with the municipal planning developed by the City Council in that environment, in which a municipal parking will also be built.
These actions will be carried out in coordination with the City of Tres Cantos with whom Adif signed a collaboration protocol in 2024 to promote the station and the associated municipal parking, as well as urbanization and access to the whole.
All the work will be carried out under criteria of sustainability, safety and technological transformation, in addition to minimizing its impact on passengers and the circulation of trains. The project will also be developed following the BIM (Building Information Modeling) methodology.
Other performances at the C-4b
In addition to the construction of the new Tres Cantos station that is now authorized, Adif has several renovation, expansion and improvement actions of the C-4b line of the Madrid Vicinity.
In particular, work is being carried out on extending the line, which currently ends in Colmenar Viejo, to Soto del Real with the aim of extending the network of Neighbourhoods and serving more towns in the north of the Community (in addition to Soto del Real others such as Miraflores de la Sierra and Guadalix de la Sierra). In addition, the historic building of the old Soto del Real station will be rehabilitated and put in value, to turn it into a modern, functional and accessible station.
On the other hand, Adif is in the process of renovating the tracks on a stretch of more than 8 kilometers of the C-4 line, which will mean the replacement of sleepers, rail, ballast and track devices with others of greater performance in the stretch between Fuencarral and Tres Cantos.
European funds
The construction of the new Tres Cantos station may be co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
