The government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, gathered today the subdelegates of A Coruña, Ourense and Pontevedra and the subdelegate of Lugo to strengthen the coordination and the response of the State to the forest fires in Galicia. The meeting of the Commission of Assistance to the Delegate reviewed the procedures of activation of media and internal action in front of the different operating scenarios that can occur in a forest fire, and which are determined by the state regulations and the regional special plans of Galicia. They also assessed the impact of the new RD approved by the government in January, which improves the interoperability of devices, strengthens staff security and strengthens cooperation between administrations.
Pedro Blanco warned of the need to permanently review these operating protocols since the evolution of the climate and the characteristics of the fires require it: “We are aware that we have to be prepared all year round.” And he gave as an example the recent fires that occurred in Ponteareas and Carballo to which the state means of extinction were displaced within the framework of the permanent collaboration with the Xunta, administration that exercises the powers of extinction.
At the meeting, the delegate renewed this commitment of assistance and permanent collaboration, which had the highest exponent of the state media operation displaced to Galicia during the last wave of fires in August.
28,5M€ in the repair of the damages of the fires of 2025
At the meeting, the delegate estimated the Government’s investment in Galicia at 28.5 million euros, through different ministries to repair damage in infrastructure, in the natural environment and in aid affected by the fires that occurred last summer. This amount is the result of the recovery of forest land in Lugo and Ourense (9.5 million euros) and river channels (4.7 million euros), the repair of roads (3.8 million euros) and railway tracks (5.5 million euros) and aid to farmers and ranchers (almost 5 million euros).
Pedro Blanco pointed out that this figure is provisional, since the requests for subsidies requested by municipalities and deputations for damages caused to their infrastructures and equipment are being analyzed and managed by the Ministry of Territorial Policy and Democratic Memory.
