The Government Delegation in the Community of Madrid has brought together agencies and entities linked to the conservation and management of the protected natural spaces of the Community of Madrid to coordinate the management of the expected influx on the occasion of the solar eclipse on August 12.
The Government delegate to the Community of Madrid, Francisco Martín Aguirre, accompanied by the Government’s deputy delegate, Pilar Trinidad Núñez, Colonel Carlos de Miguel, head of the Madrid Civil Guard Command, and Civil Protection Officers of the Government Delegation, has chaired this telematic meeting, whose objective has been to analyze the specific needs and address the necessary prevention, security and mobility measures in the face of the high influx of people expected in these natural enclaves during the day of eclipse.
Of the 42 observation points identified in the region, 24 are located in natural environments such as the Sierra de Guadarrama National Park, the Upper Manzanares Basin Regional Park or the Sierra del Rincón and Hayedo de Montejo Biosphere Reserve. In this sense, the high risk of fires will be one of the main axes of surveillance, along with other environmental impact issues such as the high influx of visitors, which may also affect the mobility, traffic and safety of neighbors and visitors.
Institutional coordination
To address all these issues, the meeting was attended by officials from the Citizen Security and Civil Protection units of the Government Delegation; from the Civil Guard - Madrid Command, SEPRONA, Traffic Sector and GREIM; from the General Directorate of Traffic (DGT), the National Traffic Management Center, as well as from Renfe Cerca and ADIF. There have also been representatives of the Community of Madrid, the Sierra de Guadarrama National Park, the Regional Park of the Upper Manzanares Basin, the Biosphere Reserve of the Sierra del Rincón and Hayedo de Montejo, the Madrid 112 Security and Emergency Agency, the Civil Protection Services, the Forestry Agents Corps, the Fire Brigade, SUMMA 112, the Regional Transport Consortium of Madrid and the General Directorate of Roads, as well as representatives of the National Autonomous Agency (OAPN).
So far, the Government Delegation has held four regional coordination meetings with the 93 municipalities in which it will be possible to follow the eclipse with high visibility.
