Five new municipalities in Madrid have formalized their commitment against gender violence so far this year through their incorporation into the Comprehensive Monitoring System in cases of Gender Violence, VioGén, specifically Cercedilla, Villanueva de la Cañada, El Boalo-Cerceda-Mataelpino; Navacerrada and Pelayos de la Presa. With these accessions, 60 have already taken the step of joining.
The government delegate in the Community of Madrid, Francisco Martín Aguirre, has valued the decision of these consistories and thanked them for their commitment since the VioGén System is an essential tool for risk assessment, case monitoring and effective protection of victims of gender violence and their sons and daughters.
“In the last three years, thanks to the commitment of the municipalities and the State Security Forces, we have gone from 34 to 60 municipalities in Madrid in VioGen,” said Francisco Martín, “but we are still halfway there, another thirty municipalities remain that, incomprehensibly, remain outside this system that strengthens the protection of victims of gender violence. Madrid must be a region of reference for its commitment to the machista violence. I ask for maximum commitment and the best example to all administrations in the region.”
According to data from the Ministry of Equality, so far this year, 17 women have been killed allegedly in our country at the hands of their partner or ex-partner and the number of orphaned minors amounts to 11. In addition, three minors have been killed in cases of gender-based violence against their mother.
Potential municipalities pending accession
Despite the progress made, the government delegate has demanded that the 30 municipalities of the region be included in this tool, which, having more than eight local police officers, have not yet done so.
A claim that also directs the Community from its competences with local police and political parties to act forcefully and exemplary in the face of male violence.
In particular, the consistories awaiting accession are: Ajalvir, El Álamo, Algete, Alpedrete, Arroyomolinos, Camarma de Esteruelas, Campo Real, Chinchón, Cobeña, El Escorial, Fuente el Saz de Jarama, Galapagar, Griñón, Guadarrama, Hoyo de Manzanares, Humanes de Madrid, Loeches, Meco, El Molar, Los Molinos, Demormorata de Tajuña, Navalagamella, Paracuellos de Jarama, Torvallorenzo,
