The government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, placed this morning in Ourense the social economy as an opportunity to respond to the demographic challenge in Galicia. Pedro Blanco opened the international seminar on Sustainable Employment developed by the University of Vigo (UVigo) at the Faculty of Law of its Ourense Campus and promoted by the Rights IU project of the European Union.
Pedro Blanco highlighted the province of Ourense as the epicentre of the effort of the Government of Spain in the demographic challenge. “In Ourense, the social economy helps citizens develop a vital project in their land, facilitates the provision of services adapted to social needs and does all this, in addition, from a logic of rootedness, commitment to the environment and long-term sustainability,” said the delegate, who defined the social economy as a model “that not only produces goods and services, but also generates social equality and territorial balance.”
In this regard, the delegate pointed out the new Social Economy Law as a commitment of the Government that represents the culmination of its commitment to the sector and that is born of the consensus with it. “Do this by putting social entities at the center, avoiding labor intrusion, giving them more relevance in public procurement and providing a more beneficial regulatory framework for cooperatives.”
The delegate stressed that this legal path cannot be traveled without the knowledge and experience of those who dedicate their work to the study, analysis and practice of labour law and economic and social dynamics. He therefore highlighted the importance of the forum held by the University of Vigo, since “without the work of the academy, without its ability to question, measure and propose, it would be impossible to build and sustain our Welfare State”.
