Minute of silence for the woman killed for alleged gender violence in Toledo

The workers of the Delegation of the Government of Spain in the Community of Madrid, headed by the delegate, Francisco Martin Aguirre, and the subdelegate, Pilar Trinidad Núñez, have observed a minute of silence to condemn the latest murder confirmed for alleged gender violence in the province of Toledo.

The victim, who had a minor child, was a 43-year-old woman, allegedly killed by her 50-year-old ex-partner on Thursday, April 23, in the Toledo town of Seseña. There were previous complaints of gender-based violence against the alleged aggressor.

With the confirmation of this case, there are already 17 women killed in 2026 in our country at the hands of their partner or ex-partner and the number of orphaned minors amounts to 11. In addition, three minors have been killed in cases of gender-based violence against their mother so far this year.

According to data from the Ministry of Equality, 1,358 women since 2003 have been killed by their partner or ex-partner and 68 minors since 2013. The number of under-age persons orphaned by gender-based violence against their mothers has risen to 521 since 2013.

“It is unacceptable, it is a reality against which we must fight using all the necessary resources. It is not possible that in this situation we stand by and watch,” said Martín Aguirre. In this vein, it has called for the collaboration of all administrations. “We have to be strong, we have to be exemplary, and that also means committing resources,” he said.

In the institutional statement, read by the Director of Communication of the Delegation, Sonia Crespo, the methods of communication that victims have at their disposal have been recalled, such as telephone 016, online consultations through the email address 016-online@igualdad.gob.es, the WhatsApp channel in the number 600 000 016 and online chat, accessible from the website violenciagenero.igualdad.gob.es, which operate 24 hours a day, every day of the year.
