The subdelegate of the Government in Lugo, Olimpia López, visited the IES Sanxillao, where 24 students of 1st Baccalaureate participated in the Escape Room of Road Safety of the General Directorate of Traffic. There, López pointed out that “training activities like this allow us to build a society more aware of its role in road safety. Participating students will be able to be drivers within a year and apply this knowledge in real situations, which could help save lives.”
The Escape Room of the DGT —known as "Golden Hour"— is an educational resource, which the Provincial Traffic Headquarters of Lugo make available to the educational centers of the province, in which the participants recreate a traffic accident and must resolve it as a team within a maximum period of sixty minutes. “That time slot, called the ‘golden hour’, is the critical interval from when an accident occurs to when victims are cared for, when a quick and effective response can make the difference between life and death,” said the deputy delegate.
This training activity, of a playful and participatory nature, aims to raise awareness among students about the risks of traffic and the importance of adopting safe behaviors on public roads.
The dynamic is articulated in four teams that simulate the bodies involved in a real emergency: Civil Guard, Local Police, health personnel and civilians, who must cooperate to resolve a series of tests and enigmas related to road safety. Throughout the game we work on content such as behaviour P.La.S (Protect, Warn and Help), the effects of substance consumption on driving, the regulations applicable to private mobility vehicles or accident statistics.
The activity will take place between April 8 and May 17, 2026. Centers interested in participating should contact them by April 30, 2025 via email educacionvial.jptlu@dgt.es.
The Road Safety Escape Room is a free resource available to schools, public and private entities, and any organization whose participants are over 14 years old.
